The Environmental Working Group’s annual survey on the best and worst products for the environment looked at more than 8,000 beauty products and drugstore lipsticks. In its fifth annual report, EWG found that the top 30 brands in the top five rankings were all better for the environment than the 30 worst. However, it’s still important to pick good beauty products and not let the bad ones (fragrance, parabens, etc.) convince you to shun the best brands.

EWG surveyed 230 different brands for the report and found that the top seven were natural or chemical-free. There are a ton of great brands out there. These seven worked to address EWG’s findings, offering options that help to reduce the overall impact of their products. This drugstore staple is now better for the environment because the ingredients listed on it are listed as non-toxic. 2. Unilever

These Moroccanoil and Advanced Ceramide sheet shampoos have been out for a few years now, but they’ve been lauded as the leading shampoo in terms of Environmental Working Group’s score for the third year in a row. A leader in using plant-based ingredients, The company promotes the “free from” message and has a mission statement to create a world more conscious and active.

3. Revlon

This brand has a great ethos for the environment in that it is sustainable. It’s working to advance green practices and dedicated to exploring not only ingredients but how they can help with green problems.
