Best Non Toxic Nail Salon in Houston

From needing affordable treatments to scheduling appointments or getting additional opinions, finding the right nail salon is an essential step in getting your nails done. Here are some of our favorite tips and tricks on how to maximize your experience at your local nail shop.

Plan ahead

The moment you walk into the nail salon, as soon as you put your name down, chances are you’ll get off to a bad start when they ask you what you want to do first and then when you get in the chair, of course you have no idea how you’re going to handle it. But don’t worry — we all get over it!

When they prompt you for what you want to do, make a list and bring it with you — two minutes after you’ve arrived, you’ll probably feel a little bit nervous. Also, check out the floor space: is it close enough? If it is, great! Is it spacious? Better. Is it in an area where you’ll feel comfortable while you’re getting your nails done? Are there hand sanitizers? When you go through your list, make sure you keep it all in order. You don’t want to be in a tizzy and then have to ask for another coat or for service.

Preparing for the worst

I walk into the nail salon with a list of questions for my manicurist — and even though I know the answers to everything, it still feels intimidating when they hand me a chart, the directions, the app, and the menu in front of me. At some point, the girl who’s supposed to do your nails will give you an explanation of everything. But when the last minute arrives, do your homework and start picking up on questions the employee asks you, whether they are either helpful or they are just there to add to your stress.

Red Carpet Manicure

At a minimum, have the nail technician serve two tabs of nail polish so you can choose what you want next — while she’s adjusting your cuticle. Then, when she’s finished, have them remove the entire top coat and then repeat the process. Don’t forget to rotate them through the order so you have a good idea of the color order.

Tip: When you first come in, change your cuticle oil before getting the new accessories, so she won’t burn the nail or a nail color.

Electronic Checklist

Having an electronic checklist on your mobile device is super helpful. It’s great to have the chart there to draw you a quick description of the room. And when they start to go over the order, make a list of everything that needs to get done — nails, back table, make-up, everything.

Let the Pedicure Start

After your first coat of polish, let the manicurist finish the step, which is usually best if you hold the tip of your nail in your hand while it’s working. And once you’re done, have her put away the manicure. Yes, sometimes they’re going to need to reset because they were wrong or something didn’t quite go as smoothly as they hoped, but in most situations, just let the nail job finish.

The Damage Control With the Accessory

If you’re on top of the steps, so your cuticle is freshly painted, the tip of your nail is polished, and the top of your cuticle has been polished, you just might not want to go all the way to see the top of your nails. So you might want to do a few more hands to really see how they feel, or you might even want to try a test run and come back and get it fixed. And as for the accessories? When you walk out, once it’s safe to make the final decision, it’s really important to have one at home before you start calling in your nails. They make a perfect gift for yourself!
