Dancing Through the Christmas Holidays! 9 Tips For Smooth Holiday Nails

With Halloween and Halloween-esque holidays like Halloween parties still fresh in our memories, it’s time to get reacquainted with what to do with your shiny and untarnished hand and nail accessories. We all have our own unique affinity for holiday nails, but luckily our artist Jeremy Meeks’s stock keeps growing.

Just like Meeks, The Mani Beach Boys are experts in finger and toe fancy — see them beautiful nails on Stealing Hearts Christmas Tour in Houston. Though, manis go well with any festive holiday event, we asked them to share their 10 things to know before having a manicure this holiday season. If they can do it, we can too! Here’s the full list!

1. Have a fall-out-aperved cast. “All the stains of Halloween candy should be removed from any cuticles, including heels. When to have it reapplied depends on skin type,” says Kat Fee from CND.

2. Dye leaves for days of festive color. “Autumn colors (orange, lavender, and purple) take at least two days to complete,” says Kristin Burr.

3. First touch up with a minimal polish. We always recommend applying a minimally opaque top coat before buffing a base color down. “Use a clear paste to brush down bare hands and back into the nails,” says Jason Hammel.

4. Plan ahead before you manicure it. “Research colors, essences, and textures. Sign up for special workshops, and then look for a space to have your event,” says Jean Chenon.

5. Stay “on budget.” “Lay out your needs and budget, and then follow it,” says Karina Citron. “Nails also are the star of the show and there should be something colorful, bright, and fresh to show your holiday spirit. “

6. Don’t worry about blooming nails. These can simply be a natural result of nature. “When unplucked flowers grow, the eyelashes on the tip of the nail will show through. When unscrutinized eyes are always opened to the world around them. “

7. Also don’t worry about hair loss. Nails and hair will grow back naturally, says Chenon.

8. Consider color tricks. “Darker colors on very pale skin will close the gaps between the surface of the skin and the skin below the brow bone. Darker eyeshadow on very dark skin will accentuate the cheek bones to enhance a cheekbones shaped face.”

9. Consider a three-step technique. “All the prepping will be done first to prevent the clients from getting cold, wet, and messy nails. I like to do the following: First, I use the preparation sponge or brush to wipe off all polish and dust the base of the nail area with isoflurane to remove pre-knotting anicorn hairs and add shine. Next, I remove all but the top layer of translucent nail paste and use a special malleable tip like isoflurane to apply liquid nail polish under the nail. To finish the application, I apply the final coat of isoflurane and when the base of the nail is dry, finish by topping it with black polish or a top coat. And to avoid ingrown nails and nail thorns, I keep all nails flat and on a plate to protect the nails,” says Meeks.

10. Don’t forget this: you never know what your little hands will need! “If you hand wash everything else, you may need nail polish remover on the little fingers for the otherwise muted colors for your ‘entire house.'”

For his hands and nails, Meeks took out a 19th century Hungarian dryer and fill it with some leftover costume hair dye and finally had a way to ‘uncoat’ his hands and nails. He also uses a special mold to paint his nails and tips on the campaign.

Don’t forget the season; it’s starting now!
