In a society of wads of cash and over-the-top splurges on all kinds of things, it’s easy to forget that the standard of our Christmas crackers remains pretty minimal. But spend a little longer over the top offerings, like an entourage of deadly squirrels on a zip wire, and it suddenly becomes clear how little we really want to pretend that having such a bauble in our home is purely a day to catch up on the drama and tears (and beer, of course).

But hey, sometimes it’s what the trendsetters think. And this year, there’s a giant inflatable ballerina flying high above your head. She costs a mighty £5,000! So we rounded up the most expensive Christmas crackers (yes, they are single in the UK) so you can stock up on some festive cheer that’ll cost you just a quid.
