When it comes to South Korea, you already know there’s an incredible amount of beauty products on the market and even more innovation taking place. So it’s not all that surprising to find that the 2018 AMASA Beauty Awards, an awards show dedicated to salons around the globe, also included a category called Hair Culture. Given the country’s storied beauty culture, it’s not a surprise to find that the candidates for Hair Culture are diverse and dominate the 2018 list, presented by USA Beauty Week and the Korean PGA.

Korean makeup artist Park Soo Kim offered up a pearl-like twist on the classic “get a weave” scenario. The fast-food shiftworking beauty staple called TWENTY20 mixed makeup and loose hair extensions for hair that remained a one-day process, then set it with texturizing spray and left the hair in place for four days. Pretty much flawless, right? Next came the woman known as Chan Young Sam, whose two-fold style saw the use of a thick barrel brush and a light volume spray — plus spoolie hair holders. After a smooth and shiny finish, she rounded out the look with Kseni Kim’s Takbod Hairscarf ($25). Another more liquid — rather than flat — texture was delivered by Maria Kim’s Family Bois Hair ($23), which came in lilac and gave a pulled-back bedhead vibe. Meanwhile, Korean celebrity vlogger Blossom Beauty expert-turned-designer Maeda Kam showed us how to achieve a sleek pixie with flexible gel, organic plant-based styler, and a faux curl variety ($40), otherwise known as the Cattrall Paris Henna Trim Range ($27).

Other strands that will fascinate you include Kyung Gae’s charcoal hair extension ($22), which is offered in 10 colors and comes with a glowing aftercare line, and Somi’s root technique ($70), which creates a liquid-looking, weightless, luscious hair channel with a spoolie attachment for shiny, high-volume curls.
