Best Non Toxic Nail Salon in Houston

From nasty bites to blistering from the blow dryer, nail salons are an easy way to get your new mani for less. But you may be surprised at how little you know about how they work. We chatted with nail technician Chase Styles to find out more.

How Do Manicures Work?

“The nail technician applies nail polish to the glass in the treatment room, pressing the glass against your finger or hand to ensure each shade applies evenly.”

What Questions Should I Ask?

“The technician will brush your finger against the piece of glass they are applying polish to, making sure it is not too rough. Afterwards, the technician uses your nail polish and a tool called the sponge, which is about the size of a baseball bat, to smooth out the nail and cuticle.

“Pushing to lift, slide, and push will help ensure each manicure is evenly applied. It’s important to make sure your nail color is light and cool, as well as avoid wrinkling around the nail space.”

When Can You See Results?

“Your nails start to grow out on average around six weeks after you’ve had your manicure.”

Do Manicures Offer Safety Benefits?

“All nail services are offered at a standard risk level, which is designed to give customers a product that provides a safe, consistent, and enjoyable experience. It is not backed by rigorous testing or certified products in accordance with standards set by the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry or Academy of Dermatology.

“In order to be safe and effective, manicures, pedicures, and straightening services must be performed by qualified professionals and are usually offered only by salons that have high-level accreditation and guidelines governing their standards. These establishments will have practice protocols and tools from registered manufacturers.”

Does Your Technician Carry a Nuisance Mandate?

“A Nuisance Mandate is a standard maintenance frequency policy that all manicurists are instructed to follow. It is designed to help ensure safety and compliance, and mandates the manicurist follow a routine maintenance schedule as outlined in the service permit. Many salons that offer manicures, pedicures, and straightening services must comply with this Nuisance Mandate.”
