Best Non Toxic Nail Salon in Houston

Nails are important because they can indicate a woman’s level of health and physical well-being, but they’re also an important aspect of fashion. While they don’t need to be French manicured (which we’ve expounded on in depth, too) there are all types of styles and colors that look great on different skin tones.

To give you helpful tips on manicures for beautiful nails, we talked to nail expert and Brazilian Jane, who has experimented with many of the nail shapes and colors in beauty blogs and has her own salon.

You have to spend time getting ready

Of course, the most important part of a manicure is choosing a polish that will have some longevity. Jane recommends choosing a polish with salicylic acid and acetone, which will exfoliate the nail. (Salicylic acid can be found in bottle form in most pharmacies and spas.) “This will allow your nails to appear more healthy because the acids will quickly heal the nails after the application and protect them from infection,” Jane explained. “An ideal nail polish shade is going to have a good color payoff and will fade out very easily. The treatment should also last a good two to three months.”

Once you have a great shade, Jane recommends softening the polish with a little color polish remover to give the polish a good, even application. “Be sure to work at a low pressure when applying the polish. Make sure the tip of the nail is the furthest from the hairline, as that will give the most natural looking nail.”

The start of a manicure is the most important part

The most important part of nail care is starting it off the right way. Start off with some moisturizer, Jane advised. “I recommend your moisturizer to be infused with hyaluronic acid as this will moisturize your cuticles more easily,” she said.

To moisturize, Jane suggests Vitamin E (at the recommendation of her husband, a vitamin E specialist), the Lemonade Nail Balm ($4), or Neutrogena Total Effects Moisture Touch-Up ($7). There are products that contain vital nutrients and vitamins like an added compound called ReVive.

Once your cuticles are clean, use an alcohol-free nail polish remover (no harsh chemicals, no harsh stuff), Jane said. “Apply, let sit for two to three minutes before applying polish.”

Pull out the nail polish when it gets to a glossy finish. “Next apply a short helping with some eyeliner,” Jane said. “Start the polish removal process with the surface area of the nail.” She suggested applying gel, cold-pressed, oil-based, or wax-based polish removers. “After removing the polish, pull the polish and remove the paraffin layer. This will keep the polish from bonding with the nail.”
