Best Non Toxic Nail Salon in Houston

Given the number of inches new moms drop during pregnancy and delivery, it’s normal to forget how much ground and bodily fluids are involved with holding a baby, let alone clipping nail polish. Plus, every other nail polish is so cool.

There’s no shame in clipping your baby’s nails, but there are a few dos and don’ts.

“Nail clippings can be used on pretty much anything – slates, folders, notebooks, pens, letters, maybe even expensive baby products,” says Cathy Iannone, owner of the spas The Mixology and Us Staff Studio.

You can even file off baby spots or blistery skin without getting a sunburn. “With baby skin, the important factor is to always use very strong nail polish remover. If not, there are baby spots, blisterable areas, or cuts that are the worst and you might need a hospital visit,” says Heather Nimmons, a former intern in the nail salon industry who now runs popular salon Nimmons Nails in New York City.

Don’t use cheap nail polish remover. With baby skin, the important factor is to always use very strong nail polish remover. If not, there are baby spots, blisterable areas, or cuts that are the worst and you might need a hospital visit. “There’s not one store-bought remover that I know of that you can trust to not strip the nail underneath,” says Nimmons.

There are nail polish removers that are made for foaming, lids, toppers, etc. Don’t use fake fragrances, polish removal is especially important when using high-octane polish remover. Also, if using nail polish remover, make sure you’ve completely washed out your hands after using it on your baby.

Don’t let little hands claw your nails, or your scissors back of the nail clipper. Staying warm and comfortable is a must if using this technique, so your nails won’t remain at an odd position from where they come from.
