Best Non Toxic Nail Salon in Houston

As a manicurist, Samantha Strahle knows a thing or two about healthy nails, and she’s shared her advice in an Instagram video titled “30 Tips for Healthy Nails for Your Beauty Journal” for She Wears Many Hats. One of her tips? To always separate your nails from your fingers when you cut off and shape your bangs for a messy finish.

“We love to experiment with different shapes when cutting and shaping bangs so we cut perfectly straight. However, even if it isn’t perfect, having your nail sections placed separately from your fingers is a great idea. It can make your bangs look much more patchy and messy,” she said. The more messy it is, the more natural the style, and the result is a layered, comfortable bang.

Here are Samantha’s other tips, too. Click through to see the exact technique she uses to create bangs to your liking.

1. Nail Set-up

Always remove any sponges or adhesive you may have used on your fingers. After using a file, follow the line of the nail all the way across and up into the hollow of the claw.

If you’ve used a pre-dipped nail file, just make sure to cut about an inch off the tip and follow the same approach, using a file that’s been pre-dipped to get the same shape as the one you used before. If using pre-dipped, follow all of the above and it’ll make your bangs very pronounced!

2. Forget About the Pre-Dipped Rinser

I’ll be honest and say that there’s nothing better than a pre-dipped clip-on brush to make your nails smooth and polished before making your bangs. However, I found out that there’s a difference in brushing with a pre-dipped paddle brush as you would a non-dipped one. The difference is the exact same, but I noticed more “boobs” or holes in my tapered tips after using the pre-dipped paddle brush. I’ve been going back to the non-dipped brush and having a lot less wrinkledness and micrometre pores!

3. Avoid On the Nose

When I follow the previous step and begin cutting off the tips of my nails, I always follow up with a little bit of a sweeping motion on each section, making sure to scrape away the leftover topcoat.

4. A Little Thickness

There are times when I have a section of hair that’s very thin, but it still has some length on either side. If that’s the case, I always leave a couple inches of long hair between the cuticles of the two ends to make the bangs look more rounded and feminine. But for the shortest sections, try cutting your bangs shorter, with more hair between the cuts.

5. Beat it

If you’re not a fan of clean cuts, don’t bother with cuts at all. You can keep your bangs in their natural condition even with freshly clipped and filed hair. If you’re sad about it, just add a few drops of Sally Hansen Herbal Nails Root Touch-Ups to your tub of OPI’s Salon Effects lacquer or the Sally Hansen Herbal Nails Serum.
