Best Non Toxic Nail Salon in Houston

We broke. The Halloween pumpkin decoration your child got for making jack-o’-lanterns in the class Halloween fair was gleaming white, and your welcome mat from your Grandma Rose was cracked open by the 4th grader. It’s everyone’s coldest holiday, but still, with a bad nail injury and no one but you to blame, your presents might be in tatters and the holly your kids filled their stocking with may not look nearly as fresh-cut and bright as it did back when you gave it to them.

Think of Nails as Your Kids’ Newest Christmas Gift. Even if it seems far and few between, treat this holiday like your kid’s present to you. And don’t worry — there are ways to cure your broken nails — fast.

Start by applying the first coat of waterproof polish. “During any skimpiness issues, it can be best to apply (or re-apply) waterproof to protect the initial nail,” Jessica Gutch, MD, Physician/Owner of Cross + Root Nail Salon in New York City, tells POPSUGAR. “‘Heavier’ polish that’s meant to look scratched could quickly chip away, causing or worsening the nail breakage,” says Dr. Gutch. “We recommend trying out the strong waterproof polish to see how well it holds up, and applying it again when needed.”

Skip Gel and Use Serums, Sunscreen, or Herbal Oil Instead. “In this situation, you can actually use any product, including a polish product, to cure the dry brittle part of the nail,” says Caroline Cajina of NailRope, an app that maps out nail locations. Gel nail polish, like Aquaphor, is said to help hold onto nail protection and provide a canvas to add polish or protect color.

Reduce Stress. “In these moments, particularly when something has broken, stress increases,” Gutch says. Dr. Cajina recommends using a blue crystal like Nature’s Jewel in a salt water mixture. “That powerful combination of salt and the powerful soothing mineral, nature’s lotion, will seriously seal in the injury.” If that doesn’t settle your nerves, perhaps taking a warm bubble bath will.

Use Laetrile or Oil on the Cracked Ends of Nails. Laetrile is a natural plant extract that has been used for millennia to treat various forms of cancer, said Gutch. It should also have no harmful effects on your nail. “Yeast in the body breaks off the resin, then lives for two weeks without leaving any residues,” she says. “You can apply Laetrile directly to the cracked end of your nail.”

Get to the Solutions ASAP. When your nail breaks, it’s not something that can wait until your next visit to the doctor, so instead of calling a nail technician or taking the time to do the required makeup application to heal the nail, Dr. Gutch says it’s best to save the damage as best you can. “This is when you will notice the degradation of the nail breaking, and the break will last for a better to longer.” Try using a cuticle oil in order to keep your cuticles soft and hydrated, and use the remaining coating from your nail polish to give your hands a healthy shine.
