Best Non Toxic Nail Salon in Houston

Fresh manicures are the perfect way to brighten up your day, especially around the holidays.

So we’re keeping the trend going this week with a brand new inspiration: oil nails and nail oil base coats. According to experts, giving your nails a healthy, lasting shine is easy and involves two simple steps.

The first step involves creating a base coat and beginning your manicure with a base coat, Cut Out nail tech and celebrity manicurist Joanna Vargas told HuffPost.

You can use a mild base coat like Cut Out Essentials for $6, but Vargas suggests fans of a thicker base coat go for Cut Out Oil Base Coat ($10).

“Oil base coat is great for those who love a little extra shine, have thin nails or just need to be more confident,” she said. “It’s incredibly easy and can be used on any type of dry, complex nail treatment. This base coat is perfect for a fun manicure, a holiday mani, or an intensive manicure. I do love using it as it gives the nails shine that’s a little more natural, but you’re not getting a wet nail, like in mousse or gel manicures.”

To get the oil base coat just add a dab of your favorite oil to the Cut Out Essentials base coat and apply it to the nails with a shiny brush. “This can help your nail color stay shinier and also absorbs all that excess oil and polish residue from a manicure,” Vargas said.

“I love to follow my lip moisturizer and oil base coat with a wash of color to create a polished manicure. Then I go back to that base coat to help seal in the color and develop a base coat for winter,” she added.

To take a cue from your modern-day version of Marilyn Monroe, Vargas suggests opting for a cuticle oil, too.

“I love using cuticle oil to help keep my nails looking in tip-top shape during my manicure,” she said. “This oil nourishes the cuticles and also makes a perfect base coat.”

She suggested DIY favorites like Perfect Cut & Nail Manicure With Ginger Beard Oil ($10), as well as Bioderma’s Cream Cuticle Oil ($10).

To create these beautiful gels and oils, simply spray over the polish and follow up with a clean and gentle manicure brush.
