Best Non Toxic Nail Salon in Houston

The message is clear: we need to keep our fingernails healthy. While getting rehydrated is important to fight periodontal disease, it’s also critical to keep your fingernails supple. When your hands are hard and you’re trying to clean or pick something up, there’s more chance you could injure yourself, so we spoke to Kimberly Whitaker, nail expert for House of Nails, to find out how you can keep your nails looking sharp. “The number one culprit for your dry, brittle nail chips is time spent on the computer or phone, as the internet and device screens react to the heat from ambient lights and give your hands a dry and harsh skin environment,” says Whitaker. “A simple fix is to apply a damp cotton ball to your fingertips, and over time, your nails will naturally begin to moisturize, and it will be much easier to clean your hands efficiently. You should never spend too much time on the computer because your fingertips will get too dry, but if you have to devote a small amount of time to grooming and care, always add a layer of moisture with a double-ended (on either side of the finger) nail file.”

Keep your nails trim and on their toes.

“Apply a set of strong-binding wax to allow your nails to extend naturally from the nail bed. Top coat your nails with a stronger-binding wax before any temporary nail trimming. Apply extra rounds of superglue to be sure that your nails adhere to your wood cuticle and do not scratch,” says Whitaker. “Finally, when trimming, make sure you follow the recommended guidelines and file for the length of the cuticle. Always file down the dead skin off the nail.”
