Best Non Toxic Nail Salon in Houston

We’ve made our New Year’s resolutions of getting healthier, eating healthier, and being more “all in” with our aesthetic in the New Year. But for some of us, sticking to that goal can be challenging. Why? Because we’re not superhuman. Instead, we’re a little too busy to start shaving off inches, for example. And we’re not necessarily a team of multitaskers. So for our New Year’s resolutions, we’re going to be focusing on one thing, but doing it the right way. Yep, how about, nail art-style? The only trick is doing it in a way that’s not complicated.

We spoke with renowned nail technician Marie Cho to get her take on how to nail the look. The perfect fit for someone who knows how to create Instagram-worthy nails, Marie has a bunch of tips that we’ll be sure to incorporate into our New Year’s resolutions this year.

Keep It Looking Up. “Nails are a very personal thing. If you find them too flat, you just can’t nail it,” Marie explains. “Another simple tip is making sure your nails are looking up. Usually, too-flat nails, and not having plenty of interest in the nail bed or color of your nail, is going to make the nail look outdated and older. Stay in the present and have a fresh look in mind. Don’t let other things shape your nail — like red lipstick or nail polish color — make a permanent impact on your nail.”

Keep It KIND OF “GEAR-LIKE.” “It’s also important to treat your nail polish well,” Marie notes. “When you’re painting, polish color should be a great base for the rest of your nails. But when you’re coloring, go with a dark color for the tip of your nails so it blends better with your skin tone and nails.” (Sure, some of us will have our nails stay done all year long in glossy, sugary polishes, but be sure to get the glow — the look — right here.)

Keep It Colour-Free. Speaking of color, it’s important to have a color plan in place. “You can’t color your nails like a child,” Marie says. “You have to know what style and color of nails you like and stick to that style. Instead of painting your nails in the same color every time, try playing with different shades. Another easy tip is to try different shades of nail polish in black, a creamy white, or a glittery silver.”

Be Afraid, Be FEARLESS. Marie’s final tip will make your New Year’s resolutions bulletproof. “Never wait around to finish the job, so to speak. If you have too many nail tools, or you just don’t feel like doing the entire process, that’s OK. Make the finish look complete. I always like people to be brave and fearless when it comes to nails. Be confident in what you want. You’re all in this together.”
