Best Non Toxic Nail Salon in Houston

If you’ve got cuticles aching and cracked, you’re not alone. But the very definition of broken, dull, and nasty nails may not be accurate. Your nails can break (a lot) on a daily basis in just a few seconds. Which means you can recover from any nail breakage (or five!) in under five minutes with expert tips from Fingertip Stop, an app that provides all-natural nail care based on science and principles of skin science, exoskeletons, and nail hygiene.

“Nails can break on a daily basis. Really one of the most common nail ailments I see on the website and take care of in my practice is nail breakage. A lot of times people don’t know how it can happen and that they should be extra careful and proactively take care of their nails,” says Ruby Colley, founder of The Manicurist. “Nail-care tips are really important and help in preventing breakage and painful endings.”

1. Swap Borax for acetone.

“The general rule is to start by replacing the acetone you apply to your nail polish every two to three days with baby oil,” says Ruby. Baby oil is made of 99.7 percent water and should be applied once or twice a week. “The other thing to keep in mind is that acetone can irritate the nail and can break them down,” Ruby explains.

2. Add 2 percent pure menthol to OPI Cuticle Oil.

Ruby also suggests adding 2 percent pure menthol to OPI Cuticle Oil ($19). “This will help break through the dryness by depositing menthol into the cuticle which will soften the cuticle and make it easier to dissolve,” she says.

3. Exfoliate properly and cleanse all your cuticles.

To prevent nail breakage, your skin should be cleansed thoroughly. “As soon as you start applying nail care products, be sure to follow with a thorough cleanse and exfoliation,” Ruby says. “If your cuticles are very dry then you should be going for those that make you wash with warm water first and then the hot water for eight to ten minutes to get rid of dead skin and preventing further cuticle growth.”

4. Porous nail polish can cause problems.

Ruby says that porous nail polish can crack or break the nail. “When your nail has a porous surface (as it does when applying nail polish), more bacteria can travel through your nail thus putting your own health at risk,” she explains. “Avoid porous nail polish products to help prevent breakage.”

5. Manicures can cause cuticles to open back up, which can cause more pain.

For the last tip, Ruby says to avoid any manicures during bad skin days. “Holding out on getting cuticles done while you’re at the salon and using white gloves for your cuticles when you go to the store can be the worst thing you can do to your cuticles,” she says. “Eating ice creams or popping cold items into your purse are the best options.”
