Inspired by Mad Max and the Sahara desert, Los Angeles-based editorial nail artist Betina Goldstein created a sand-toned nail look for a section of the KITH Spring/Summer 2020 show using Essie.

“The contrast between the glossy moon and the matte nail creates a three-dimensional effect,” says Goldstein on the dune-shaped design. “It’s almost as if the models dipped their fingers in the sand.”

Step 1
Prep the nail. Apply Here to Stay Base Coat. Outline the moon and sides of the nail using a detail brush with Cliff Hanger.
Step 2
Fill in the nail from the moon down with Cliff Hanger.
Step 3
Apply Matte About You Top Coat only over Cliff Hanger, leaving the moon shape glossy. Finish with Apricot Cuticle Oil.

For the next look, Goldstein looked to Paris, France for inspiration for another section of the KITH show using Essie to create a double-corner French design for “an edgy, modern twist on a classic concept,” she adds.

Prep the nail. Apply Here to Stay Base Coat. Apply one coat of Mademoiselle to the nail.
Step 2
Use a detail brush and Blanc to paint a tapered line along the base and free edge corners of each nail.
Step 3
Apply Matte About You Top Coat, and finish with Apricot Cuticle Oil.

A third look played off the sporty Cordova ski suits for the Aspen-inspired section of the show. Goldstein opted for a minimalistic, futuristic design with a metallic line painted down the center of each nail. “The chrome polish against a matte base, mirrors the reflective detailing in the clothes,” she says.

Apply one layer of Matte About You Top Coat.
Step 3
Use a detail brush and No Place Like Chrome to paint a vertical line down the center of each nail. Finish with Apricot Cuticle Oil.
