Best Non Toxic Nail Salon in Houston

A version of this article was originally published in April 2017, when it was just called the Miniflex Nail Conditioner. With the past two-plus years of testing and trialling it out, I feel that it is now essential to have this product in my kit, right alongside my CND Wishes plaited mani, another product designed to fight surface dryness.

I made a face when I heard about the Ultra-Smart Nail Polish, because it sounded like the only nail polish in the world that grows nails (also known as dryness, shiny nails, cracked nails, or nails that grow with the placement of your fingers). I know what you’re thinking, but this polish is not just perfect for human hands — you can layer it on for a natural, biodegradable, and anti-aging nail formula.

And you already know that antiaging is one of the topics that really concerns me. As a woman, there are certain beauty trends that I love: the many chains of glitter-lit Pinterest boards that mention illuminating or highlighting your nails. But underneath, I’m not really crazy about the chemicals in products that bleach your nails in the beginning, then add a milky white, dried-out formula to keep you looking polished.

After consulting various aestheticians and a few professional nail experts, I came to realize that the lack of color-coating options, and the fact that they often turn your polish into a beige color that only looks good on your nails, only makes beauty hurt more than it already does. What I really want is an antiaging nail polish that doesn’t stress my digits out. The antiaging nail formula that did most of that for me is Miniflex Nail Conditioner ($16).

According to the manufacturer, Nail Conditioner claims to leave your skin looking and feeling healthier after a week of wear, with reduced moisture for sensitive hands, enlarged hydrating liners, longer nails, thicker tendons, and more toned hands. It also “gently and rapidly grows a proper size to all areas of the hand and wrist with all natural Nail-Oil as its principal ingredient.”

Make no mistake, the product is heavy on the Nails-Oil, which consists of ingredients like sulfate-free pineapple-seed butter, hemp-seed oil, coconut oil, and chia seeds. The formula is not super easy to slap on your nails, as you’ll have to coat the cuticle area with oil and wet a little bit of your nail to release the product. That method will take at least 30 minutes, which isn’t super convenient for an afternoon manicure. But once you do, you’ll see a difference within less than two days.

Miniflex has found some success with its formula. The company is based in Brazil, and founder Lyle Betar tells POPSUGAR that his solution helps women with conditions like nail-damaging food allergies, and will help reduce the discoloration of “wet manicures.”

A smaller product is in the works, called Miniflex Dry Nail Polish ($15), that will target the dryness of nails caused by lotions, aerosols, and nail polishes that are drier than skin. Lyle promises that “No parabens, sulfates, or mineral makeup, and no need for Vaseline, Listerine, Dial, or baby oil.” In 2016, the brand launched a stain-removal option for dryish nails called Miniflex Polishing Lotion ($12). Lyle advises that “If your nail color needs to be a pure coral, and you hate putting tons of parabens on your nails, then this oil- and formula-free polish will be the perfect night-before option for you,” suggesting that once you’ve done the actual nail application and applied the cuticle oil, keep the polish in the freezer to get the oil to continue growing longer and stronger.

You could buy nail polish in a store, but a nontoxic antiaging solution that leaves your body looking fresh and less dry all while providing hydration is exactly what I’m looking for. I tried Miniflex Nail Conditioner and Dry Nail Polish over the summer, and I do believe they are things I would have used without thinking twice — after a long weekend of travel and exercise, they work wonders to keep my nail situation looking more manageable.
