You get to show off your new look to anyone who happens to stop by your door, be it the neighbor down the street, an absolute classic TV star you love, or that cute guy at your table at work. Maybe even get a nice compliment!
POPSUGAR spoke with top NYC-based nail artists at GleamNails and Graziela J and spent some quality time with them, asking them all about the type of mani they like, what makes a perfect nail, and of course, sharing some nail tips that every girl should know. On the styles they recommend for healthy nail enamel:
1. “My favorite designs are the crystals, especially if you’re going super sparkly. I think they look even better when you can accentuate the edges by, like, using clear nail polish for a chunky or diamond effect.”

2. “I love classic designs that maybe a little more monochromatic, depending on what color you’ve gone with.”
3. “I think someone who’s into a more out-there look, I like if they can go and get one of these weird-looking designs — maybe big gem or just some thick, burnt-orange polish — that will give them a little bit of some counterbalance.”
4. “Color in general has a lot to do with the way you feel — your mood, how you want to be felt. When you choose to go a little bit more bold, it comes with a little bit more pressure.”
5. “Honestly, I just like to make people feel comfortable and love their nail.”
6. “What makes me feel good at the end of the day is just great nails!”
7. “To get a really clean and healthy manicure, no clippings; that way, you only need one coat and it lasts.”
8. “Every girl is different! You can just play around. Have fun, experiment with colors, go crazy, do the crazy chunky ones, or go with just a sparkly shade and flat on the sides to make the nail look really carmine.”
9. “Love where your nail color falls, whether it’s so strong or very pale. If you go for super pale, you have the power and you’re the vixen. If you go for super strong, and you go with a dark shade, the vixen will definitely kick your butt in the next day!”
10. “It’s totally up to the client. If you don’t feel like it, and it’s not what you want, then don’t do it. If you’re feeling confident, you’re feeling healthy, and you like the color, it’s what works for you.”
11. “Good manicures come from old habits you’re going to pick up — cleanliness, moisture, and roughness.”
12. “Everybody has their tricks! We say, do a few little things to get your nail to get extremely shiny, to get those look of sandals and leather!”
13. “A nail can be super delicate, or you can be like, wow, the polish’s going to ruin my nails or stain my teeth, so I need to make the cuticle wipe extra short, because I can see my lines.”
14. “Make sure you’ve done a little toning down, while still covering it up. It could be your toenails or your cuticles, but just a little bit. It doesn’t have to look perfect.”
