Keep Your Hands Off My Nails!

As a girly-girl, I have a thing for tips. Between weddings, school events, and birthdays, I need to have a few thousand nails in my very short life, so I’m always looking for ways to keep my hands away from my nails, and that means baby steps.

I have a very sad tale of a nail I tried to stash in the freezer for hours to prevent it from splitting. It came out, so I don’t recommend this method. I also have a tale of a nail trying to take me by surprise and ending up loosening my finger tips to the point where they were bleeding and I was afraid to look them in the eye.

See which other nail-repair methods I’ve seen and what I like to avoid when trying to fix my own problem-solving problems, after the jump.

1. Opt For Fishnets and Antlers

The Elle Décor West Coast Nursery And Design makes free fishnets from antlers and a perfume because they promise these beauty accents are “silent and age-free.” Then, don’t wear them outside.

2. Fill In with Gun Powder

Gun powder is great for every situation from catching fly balls to getting a pretty patina on your nails.

3. Put on the Brandy Glue Hat

Is it cheating to use gun powder to heal your nails? You’d have to be an idiot to not try this. I tried it in college and now it’s my go-to nail remedy for a quick fix.

4. Do a Worm Ear Tingling Technique

Eek! Look at her, she’s freaked out. I’m not a fan of these treatment because you have to really use these to keep them in place. My skin is sensitive and I would have a hard time with this. It works only if you can maneuver your hand in between the ear and nail for the right length of time to numb the ear. I can’t even imagine what she must have been going through as a young girl while her mother endured this torture.

5. Put on a Nail Topknot

Sorry, I don’t recommend this unless you like wearing a hat, bun, or ponytail. The best way to keep your nails from breaking or split? Not that one.

6. The Boring Step

Repeat after me: manicure, single nail, color, concealer, and wrist band with cheap rope. It’s simple, effective, and the remnants are fun.

7. Spray with Antifreeze

These pink pennies with the little logo are fun and a cheap fix for chipped or broken nails.

8. Chip Away

An eyebrow pencil is a great splurge. It can last a while and comes with a premium quality applicator. The painted tips can even resurface to reveal the original color.

9. Glow in the Dark

You can do this at home. Leave one or two strips from the Sally Hansen Rosy Nail Polish by Warm Color on your nails for a makeup look. They’re available at Sephora and Ulta Beauty and only $2.49 each.

10. Blend in Polish

One, two, drop. I know, mind boggling.

11. Cover It Up
