We’ve all h those slowdowns, rough periods where you’re not given the credit you deserved, or when your work gets overshowed by another issue.

Not long ago I was interviewing someone at work on a creative project. He came in off the phone, thanking me for an interview we both went on, and asking about myself, and about how I got started in the industry, my career goals, how I now feel the balance of business and personal life…and it got me thinking about all the lies we tell ourselves about our careers. So how is our relationship to our work today?

To save time, I wanted to ask around for some lifestyle experts for vice on how to deal with a balanced career and home life. I’ve been designing shoes and handbags for 15 years, and have even done a women’s program for Lola de Oliveira while working. I have seen so many women struggle in the workplace, with both the health of their relationship to their work and their relationship to their family life.

“I recommend women focus on being their best and remaining totally focused on their work. Use all available tools like online tools, looking online at organizational apps like Saana with free templates or pack ‘n’ tool management apps. Use time tracking and engagement systems and always have a certain amount of time allocated to them. Have a personal and business calendar just in case things go wrong.”

Lifting the veil on the hidden working life:

“We talk about the perfect home or work life so much, but we talk about the checkered gray look inste, you know- the life we don’t talk about too much- the work-life balance. There is that little extra swatch.”

For Rachel Cudmore, a New York-based massage therapist, lifestyle blogger and of four books, having a successful career as a therapist and mom is a balance she can’t get into a glass case of stress.

“I feel like I’m always a little bit high, that everything is in check and we’re all fully out of things that are worrisome in our lives, and that’s one of the key things to focus on. And by ‘balance,’ I don’t mean, OK, there’s one more piece of laundry to do, there’s a bra to sort through, a baby shower to attend, so I’ll go grab a good cup of coffee and a good skin mask or wash all that dross off and then … life is OK.”

(50 things to do the day before work)

“I really try to meditate and I’m very conscious that I’m going to be working through the day, which is a totally fine and normal feeling and great to have. But when you are doing all these things throughout the day, your mind becomes rather extreme, which is wonderful. But you also have a mind that’s kind of blown with all this craziness going on.”

Balance is the key

“I don’t find myself controlling what I can control in life. I enjoy it every single day. To me, the ideal situation for me is to know that I can put everything into practice, when I am doing so, and I’m conscious of what I’m doing, and when I’m not thinking aboutit, and I am trying to have a really balanced life.”

The ultimate goals for finding your balance of work and home life?

“I want to have the skills that will allow me to travel, especially I want to be able to travel internationally and really inspire people. When you want to achieve something, it’s all in your mind.”

Bottom line, life is a balance. Most of us can’t get everything we want in life. Don’t focus on how much we want rather than on how much we want to accomplish. Every person has different needs and needs to keep a balance, and find what works for you in your life.

It’s also important to have flexibility for yourself as to when you work and what type of time you want to work at. We can’t want our jobs to be a career, but we still have to have the ability to put in the time. Because everyone wants what they want, and you can’t force yourself to do certain things. Ultimately we know what makes us happy and our jobs should make us happy.

If you want to work without stress, leave your boss to do the work for you, and enjoy time with your family and friends.

Most days I go to work at 6 and go home at 6:30 and I let my feelings take over the way my body works. But I allow for me to feel anything. I allow my body to breathe. You’re so busy life is crazy. You’re busy in life, that you forget to take time for yourself.

Here is my goal for balancing work and life. Do you have any specific goals to learn more about using Life Balance?

Stay present. We all miss time, and from the outside it’s easy to make excuses. The honest truth is that everyone has a different amount of time to live. We take so much of time to focus on work that we can neglect or even negate our personal relationships and goals.

Find your gift. Focus on the unknown and what unspeakable things you are very, very good at. That becomes your most amazing gift. It’s often what keeps you up at night, but it also changes your life and helps you prioritize.

Don’t hold back. Because you are so driven and willing to learn, you could be the best at everything. You could be the best at making art, music, writing, teaching, or anything else. But until you share it with someone, there will be no one who can thank you for what you do and help you to find the time to focus on your personal life.

Go for it. Make the risk to do it. But it willbe worth it.

Put myself in front of the computer. Stop doing something! It’s time to give some space to your soul. Don’t hold anything back. Be your real self. Everybody’s real!

Eat, drink, smell, and think. If you can just take a moment or 2 to physically breathe, you are going to feel more than just the fuel in your body. You are going to feel more alive. You are going to heal. So now you have to find what works for you. You need to remember that you deserve a life and a childhood, not a working life.

Embrace change. No one has to be the same the whole time. It’s not real, so start apting to change.

Live with your balance, and life will change around you.

Be part of the problem. Be a part of the positive movement inste of the negative one.

Remember to be joyful. Smile all the time. And make your world a happier place.

Self-love is not a virtue. It’s a way of living. No one else is going to do it for you.

A skinny finger means you are the boss.

Bring out the best in everybody else. It takes two to tango.

New year, new you. Remember to forget what you did last year and be open to new possibilities.

Just stop. Life gets more complicated everyday. Take a deep breath. And give yourself permission to start over.

Break the ice. Make an effort to connect and create new relationships.

Walk away with your heart open. Get in shape. And find a new sense of humor.

Eat healthy food that you don’t mind spending money on. You deserve to feel good about what you are eating.

Feel good about all of the time you spend at work. Enjoy it. It’s well worth the effort.

Do the work you love, and you will be happy.

Find a good book, and you will find happiness.

Get a new skill. It’s not a hobby but an ability. It has to be exciting.

It is important to enjoy life. Don’t wait for it to happen.

Expect great success.

Someday, you’ll find true fulfillment. You will discover your happiness, and it will be easier to achieve your goals and never again feel alone. It won’t happen overnight, but it will come. You need to let go of what isn’t real. It is possible. So get back to living the life you deserve to live.
