Best Non Toxic Nail Salon in Houston

Just when you thought that all your beauty-related woes were behind you, it seems another plague has emerged to serve as a second companion — cold weather. You can blame all the pesky wind for chipping your nails from the yolk of your eggs (depending on who you ask) and the thawing water for loosening your nail beds, leaving you no option but to endure the unpleasant ache. But the effects of cold weather may be much more painful than just your nails and fingers.

Dr. Samantha Tracey, an internist at Silver Hill Hospital in New Canaan, CT, says that, while cold weather can get under the skin, “the major cause of cutaneous [overseas] dermatitis, also known as frostbite, is in the cuticle area which gets brittle from the season’s cold temperatures.” This may explain why dry, split skin on faces can have a notoriously hard time hiding the current weather situation.

But how do you keep your face from getting itchy? Here are seven expert tips on how to keep you looking peachy until warmer weather returns.

1. Keep Your Face Clean and Cleaning

Dr. Tracey says to “examine your skin and make sure it’s clean.” Washing your face daily is a good idea, so even if you have to stay home from work, it’s worth it to be able to breathe in your warm, hydrated air.

2. Choose Organic Face Soap

According to Dr. Tracey, “Green Tea soap is really good for blemishes.” Green Tea is an organic fruit that acts as a natural antibacterial and anti-inflammatory, so it works best for spots and certain kinds of eczema.

3. Brush Your Face

That is right — brush your face daily, and use regular white or medium bristles to avoid cracking and growing blue lumps.

4. Glue on Scalp Hair to Prevent Split Ends

“This is one of the most common haircare causes of premature hair loss is left behind after soaking hair in cold water,” says Dr. Tracey.

Glue the end of your hair (directly above the base of your head) to reduce split ends in your hair. “I like to use a two-strand braid — keeping the braid, head, and clump together and wrap the ends over it,” says Kadi Nassiri, owner of Luna Hair Parlor in Seattle. If the two strands wrap around each other tightly, it’s called a ‘Tudia bun.’

5. Revitalize Your Skin

For women, the skin on their face “typically dries out during the cooler months,” Dr. Tracey explains. “Taking some time out to cleanse your face with a rose essential oil cleanser and use an hydrating moisturizer before bed is a great way to get a dose of moisture.”

6. Use Different Products

Different products are best at different times. “If you’re in a time of year where you normally wear tights, layering the layers on over and over again and then going bare can cause heavy, chapped skin,” says Dorinda Watts, a beauty artist and owner of Cleveland-based Nails Inc. Hot wax can dry out skin if it’s not used well, so layering a silky balm and your favorite moisturizer will keep all skin types looking fresh.

7. Apply Foods and Tea to Boost Cellulite

Keeping foods around such as acidic ones such as oranges and fresh fruit and green tea can help skin retain moisture, Dr. Tracey explains. Try baking soda to reduce stretch marks and broken collagen, and coconut oil for cellulite removal. Dr. Tracey says that sauna can help with the flaring of skin because “the heat helps cells conduct better, which helps to cool things down.”
