When it comes to repairing a damaged nail, it’s usually best to go a step further and try alternative methods first. This is because there are a lot of things that might need to be done, some potentially cost a lot, and others might not work at all. To find out the truth, we conducted a survey asking nail technicians about all the tried and tested, safe and better ways to fix damaged nails.
So, what is the best way to get the topmost level of polish back on your nails? Well, it depends on your nail surface. Ask experts to try and guide you but the following tips will not only give you the top level of polish back on your nails but also help you to repair your nail in a really fast and safe way.
1. Avoid any ironing
The best thing to do if you happen to lose the top layer of polish at home is to avoid doing any things that can erode the polish. This is because if you are ironing, the polish will come off at any point in time, i.e. the tips, flakes or to be more precise, the irons all over. The new paint pigments oxidize at any level of temperature and unless your machine is perfectly calibrated and temperature-controlled, it is likely to oxidize.

Instead, try putting the nail troughs in wax. This method is called Nail Thermograph. It has an inbuilt thermal pump that will allow your nail scraps to cool in 10 to 15 minutes. This is because the cold temperatures destroy any ironic process and after a certain amount of time, the nail bowl itself will stay frozen, forcing the nails to cool down fully. The advantage is that, nail wraps and pomade do not need to be applied because the thermal cycles will operate at peak temperature.
2. Drink a bottle of rubbing alcohol
Any firm nail can be repaired with rubbing alcohol. This is the simplest and the easiest way to do it. Rubbing alcohol is all about the preservation of growth hormones that help when developing the top layer of nail. The efficacy of rubbing alcohol when it comes to repairing damaged nails is still in question. But as it helps the nail bottom out and the nail base to come back together, it is a clear winner. The only concern is that rubbing alcohol is best for dry nail with full blistering at the bottom of the nail.
3. Create a nail with a safety pin
The other way to keep the nail intact is to find a way to get some surface areas covered. With the injured side covered and the top coat on, then a nail will start to return to normal. This means that the new top layer can achieve a perfect standard and follow the left side.
The second and final method to get top level polish is to use a screw driver to slide it into the nail while still applying the top coat. Simply slide a screwdriver in and you will find that the nail starts to return to normal. As it is a very quick process, it does not have to be that tough. Even if the nail is still abrasive after the screw is used to slide it in, you can slowly peel it off. By doing this, you will find that the nail should come back to normal.
