Is short fingernails taking over your life? If you spend any time wondering when you’ll have enough time to sit down and eat without a manicure, you’re right. We may now be in the modern age of short nails, but there are still plenty of women who have a long habit of feeding a two-inch paraffin painted nail with nail polish.

Garden Green & Co. marries manicures to hair coloring to create the perfect nail art that’ll wow your vanity, impress your nearest and dearest, and look effortless while you’re out and about. Her nail art includes eggplant/chocolate chip, the baby berry, the smoothie, watermelon berry, orange basil, rosewater, bright pinks, beige polka dots, and, the best one for us girls of the moment, the campfire finger paints.

When asked to share her favorite nail art tips, Amy, the creator of the nail art kits ($40, now sold out), quickly fell back on how we wear our finger nails depending on the season and the day. When asked what our tips should look like at any given time, Amy responded, “I like a little bit of contour to set my nails and what will really make my nail look pastel pink.”

“As far as our normal tips, they should always look pretty,” Amy said. “I can tell by the look of a color from the bottle that the finish of the nail goes through a formula to soften it. I have harsh ones like this for when I am doing my face to get the perfect red color. You can get more sparkly with this because it is not matte. Make sure you have your fingers protected as your nails have a tendency to blemish if left open.”

Lastly, Amy shared that we should always use a good quality dryer sheet after taking our nails off to dry them off. “All my powder manicures go in a Ziploc with two different types of powder. You just have to dry off with a dusting of powder. I like to have lots of dry powder so it doesn’t sit. Try to blend it together to get a base color. It will completely free your hands and feet of tangles,” Amy said.

You can’t go wrong with all of these great tips, but Amy’s last tip and trick might be the best one of all. Amy always recommends using a cuticle oil after every manicure to keep your nails super shiny, even if you don’t use it with nail polish. We all know that she mixes a cuticle oil with a paste and wipes out half of her nails to make sure her manicure lasts the longest.

Amy explained her cuticle oil procedure. “I put two tablespoons of an eggplant-colored oil into a cup and mix it up with an equal amount of a base color and a 3/4-inch dryer sheet. I apply the dryer sheet to the top of each nail and gently moisten them. Then, I lay out the paste one on top of the next and let it dry. Then, I apply the oil one on top of the other, rub it into the cuticles, and then hold each nail with the two dryer sheets the way they should normally be layed.”

At the end of the day, Amy said to let your nails dry without buffing them and to remove them after using your regular polish. This way, they will look just as shiny and fresh as before.
