Best Non Toxic Nail Salon in Houston

Just before winter set in a few months ago, I found myself facing the looming challenge of late-winter shaving. I was aware that shaving is an all-too-familiar ritual, and had taken note of the various do’s and don’ts. But I was also aware of how excruciating it can be. I’d already tried razors made out of bamboo, chemicals and anything else that glistened in any way that looked like a potential way to make sure my arms and neck were covered. None of it worked.

Then I saw a reminder that all that bling you buy to protect your skin in the wintertime might actually damage your nail. The research is still out on that one, but people who wore silver jewelry suffered from a higher rate of chipped or missing nails. The logic is simple: The smooth metal increases the air pressure inside the nail; that air pressure often causes nails to contract and become shorter, which in turn results in a less attractive nail.

I am not saying you should go out and slap on the utmost amount of silver jewelry. But maybe, just maybe, something’s working.

Lately, I’ve been using his-and-hers hair ties, and won’t let anyone cut my hair until I find some way to shorten it without a tremendous amount of pain. I’ve even tried wearing a detachable bandana to cover the razor and maximize the chic-ness of shaving it off in minutes. The problem is, nipping it in and out becomes sort of a bit of a chore. I’ve noticed the technique really works for men; they say it’s nearly impossible for their nose to get a tacky sheen. And some options that exist when I can’t get it done in a few minutes don’t seem like such a great idea either.

So, with the itch against my legs and a big stack of shower gel at the ready, I decided to throw caution to the wind and head to my local natural beauty shop in search of something more natural, the way I like it. I was taken by Ann Mercogliano’s Conquering Nails line. The brochure described it as a moisturizing product, and that was the launch I needed. Mercogliano explained that her grandmother had been a hair- and nail-styling fanatic, and was naturally athletic. She was a lovely girl, but a woman with long nails on both hands.

My hands have always been veritable carnage.

“How do you know what’s beautiful?” I asked.

She had her thoughtful answers, but I was wanting a fresh coat of color. I realized I was trying to figure out what I was doing before I did it. What I was doing was trying out an alternative, like trying something a little better than the idea of getting a new set of nails.

Mercogliano’s product lasts two to four weeks, with a benefit of not weighing down. Her newest release is moisturizing and strong; I’m even getting a pair of hooks for my nails in the mailbox (I’m too precious to have a nail file).

I did an entire post about body shop wearing and how you can blow your nose on jeans during the cold-weather months. But if you want to get away from trying to look exactly like you do in July or August, an effective and user-friendly product is worth exploring.
