Best Non Toxic Nail Salon in Houston

Homegrown experts — aka the workers of our favorite nail salons and manicurists — are buzzing about getting on board with black henna (AKA Henna. It’s a new thing, we know). We spoke to Dawn, owner of Dawn’s Nails on 2nd Avenue in Manhattan for the scoop on this hot nail trend! Read on for Dawn’s tips and tricks to help you get your nails going in the right direction in the new year.

Brow: The first thing you’ll want to do to darken your eyebrows is to bleach the hair, if possible. Waxed brows are usually better, but leave hair on brows for dramatic effect. Then you can add a powder brush for tweezing. Dior will give you 6 rings to tweeze. 2. Make your eyebrows less of a ticket —The dark color of the brow means you’ll need to wear an orange sunscreen. The best way to do that is with a foundation and a tinted moisturizer with SPF 10. Otherwise, dab a rose tinted moisturizer all over your face. (Try the new Lustre 50 sunscreen on sale at Macy’s — it’s affordable and it gets the job done). 3. The trick to keeping your eyebrows natural-looking: concealer a notch. To keep your brows bright and gorgeous, try Tarte Loose-Touch Foundation in Prairie Pastures — it’s got a pretty blush-like formula. (To create a smooth foundation, apply it to your fingertips in circular motions.) For highlights, you can start with concealer. If you’re doing a winged eye, it’s a good idea to emphasize your eyes by painting blush on your cheekbones. 4. For an easy way to slim down your face, try an invisibility wand. There are many options out there, and a lot of them can help create an ultrathin look. Try Ouidad’s new X Ceramic, which you can get on the website. To eliminate light, add some lightweight mineral pencils to a pencil case and keep the containers moist with unscented, non-aching lotion or spray. Use a brush or concealer to conceal. (Here’s the Ouidad formula, with five color options.) 5. Blur the natural folds in your face with a gloss. To make your pores appear smaller, try a subtle veil over them — this can be used on your eyes, cheeks, nose, and mouth. Like so many aspects of makeup, using a gloss that feels just right on your skin helps create a new direction for makeup. 6. If you want to get rid of those moles, we’re talking about regular cautions — with lasers, you need to be absolutely sure you’re getting enough depth, so that you’re not getting flattened out at the other end. Maybe tell your dermatologist about a possible treatment you’re considering. Facial sculpting (cleansing your face with a mask, then applying strategically applied highlighter) is another popular way to hide moles and freckles. 7. Take the time to get eyeliner right (no line, just a slim line). That doesn’t mean you need to wear liner all the time. You can do it with red or black pencil. For modern glam, opt for a shade that’s slightly brighter and more prismatic in color than usual. You’ll look instantly more glamorous. Not such a big deal, right? 8. For messy lips, go with the natural trend. Big pouts look like they need a strong base. Start with a subtle dusting of shimmer to give the illusion of a bolder look. You can get it at MAC, or try one of these: Orly Fantasy Balm in Rose Gold ($13) to highlight, Robert Isabell Micro Razor ($13) to bare, and Nine West Naked Lipstick in Yellow Bloom ($8). To get your feet in lace — the perfect statement finish for a look like this — try these and Tarte Creme Lipstick in Nude Bison ($17).
