Best Non Toxic Nail Salon in Houston

Now that the first official days of November have passed, it’s time to reevaluate what you’re doing with your nails.

It’s true, getting a manicure or pedicure can be boring ― or just downright confusing.

“There are a lot of guys out there who are surprised by how much effort goes into a simple polish job. I often get asked about the color of the polish or the hand-painted finish for the nails,” women’s rights advocate Bari Ratner told HuffPost.

But, the truth is, it’s all done pretty effortlessly.

Want to help out those guys out there who’ve got big job responsibilities yet also have big fingers and toes to figure out how to get nice nails? You can get a spa manicure yourself or get help from a professional manicurist.

Here are five male nail mistakes you might be making. And if you have one of your own, we’d love to hear about it.

Men blow off nail care to save money

Going to the salon is a luxury for some guys, who feel like “it’s not something they have time for,” self-proclaimed manimal Ally McQueen said. “They don’t want to have to pay $40 for a manicure and pedicure,” she said.

And even if the beauty gods in your life treat you to a chic manicure, it’s probably not because you’re confident with your mani.

“The guy, if anything, is probably more embarrassed,” McQueen said. “They need to save money for a night on the town with their lady.”

Nail fungus is a big deal

Nail fungus can do some damage to your fingertips, and don’t assume that a bruised callus is all that’s needed to get your hands red, raw and disgusting.

“Drinking around your nails is also a red flag,” said Linda Villa, nail technician at Olivia by OPI in New York City. “Men think, ‘Oh, it’s just nail fungus.’ But the idea of something like this causing a hole in your hand can be scary to them.”

Hair fades faster than you think

Hair bleaching and clippers are enough to have hair dying and color fading, and men sometimes get caught in the same trap.

“With bleaching, we make sure our clients are taking care of their hair after,” Nina Mullins, manager of Greg’s Nail and Shave, told HuffPost. “They need to be avoiding the heat and they need to come in and get the cuticles sealed so when they shave they won’t have one quick dye job and then the rest of their hair fade to nothing.”

They forget the fact that even holding a razor is quite a task

Getting your hands cold while snapping your nails down isn’t quite so much fun as the artfully decorated nails you could be going through.

“When a guy does not know how to get his hands warm in between pulling nails down it could be a problem,” Navneet Singh, owner of Navneet Nails in New York City, told HuffPost. “In addition, several ‘danger hands’ items can get dirty when the blood goes down.”

Lights, cameras, nails?

Just because your man is sitting in the makeup chair doesn’t mean he should step into the nail chair.

“Just because someone is putting makeup on does not give you the right to give them your nails,” said Olivia by OPI Nail Bar manager Ted Smith. “Make sure they take as much time as they need for makeup.”

The mani and pedi mentality

It’s not just that your man gets to go to the nail salon three times a week and doesn’t even have a job ― it’s that the whole experience is essentially just an excuse to spend time with your man instead of a woman.

“Even when people do it to their lady, there’s a negative tone because they feel embarrassed,” Smith said. “It’s even worse for your man if he gets to know it’s purely for making you feel better.”
