You’ve heard that you need to splurge if you want to properly take care of your feet. But do you realize how much, daily, we tend to overlook in how we do our pedicures?

Almost all pedicures begin with hand massage, and end with a mix of smooth and rough scrubbing to cleanse and repair rough areas of skin. It’s nice to see this top-loing and top-dressing type of pedicure is getting more and more attention since the beauty industry is focused on the full range of skin care.

It’s time to treat our feet like they deserve to be. Find out why your tritional pedicure is not keeping up to modern beauty standards, and why you need to switch up your routine to be looking your best.

Like face treatments, your feet deserve the attention they deserve. If we tend to ignore our tootsies, how can we protect them and make sure they’re giving their best while we get a pedicure?

1. Take stock

“If the massage is the only thing going on, then our feet are going to get dehydrated and tired,” says Dr. Mandy Newton, owner of the Howard Carter Day Spa and former podiatrist at the Audrey D. Johnson School of Podiatry in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

“A pedicure is like a pedicure with play,” says Newton. “It gives us the opportunity to relax and let the renaline of the pedicure system run so low, we can lose touch with the elements of body temperature. But unlike the hypnotic state of a facial, pedicures are all about energy and intense energy with a focused spa treatment in our entire bodies.”

Post-pedicure, follow up with a walk to get the blood circulating for a happier and healthier you. New at 8:40: Get more information on how you can prevent nails from cracking and emerging.

2. Health and wellness

Skin conditions such as psoriasis can damage the nails, which also affects the toes and feet, so you should dress any conditions before you spend much time on your feet. If you’re looking to do light pedicures with less effort, then the pressure will reduce the swelling. This will improve your quality of life and reduce the damage to your nails.

“Current SKIN Lab’s nails must be very dry if you want to get a strong base polish,” says Newton. “This means that before doing the daily pedicure you must let the nails be dry (even after stripping them completely, are messy or too wet). Make sure that your pedicures are hydrating, incorporating a mix of foods that support skin health, such as lettuce and aloe vera.”

3. Don’t move your feet if you’re aging

Nails do need a little support but it’s always important to respect the bone structure of our bodies. If you’re experiencing a growth in your feet or are going through the menopause, you may want to take a break.

“The toe bone [the fifth toe bone] touches the heel bone [the sixth toe bone],” says Newton. “This means that even though your toes might be reaching their maximum, the heel doesn’t touch the toe bone until the second level, the first level at the ankle, and then this last level at the leg. If you can make it to the third level at the ankle before the toe heals, then you need to allow your heel to mature a little more.”

4. Protect your feet from the elements

When the climate gets cooler, so does your feet. “When the weather gets colder, our feet need moisture more than ever,” says Newton. “At this time of year, water is freezing off the floor. Even if your feet aren’t getting any at this time of year, it’s still important to treat them with the proper moisture. Apply hydrating and anti-oxidant products such as the new SKIN Lab Just Clean with SPF 30to their hands and hands, feet, face, and dry skin. The products also protect from the sun, reduce bacteria on your hands and help protect against spider bites.”

Another time of year when our feet need a lot of care is spring and summer. Remember to water your feet every morning and every night, especially after you walk.

“Your feet should be moisturized every time you wear a garment or if you have to walk a long distance,” says Newton. “Your feet should not be exposed to the sun without she, so extra moisturizing is required to help keep them hydrated.”

Tokeep your toes fresh and apply heat during the summer months, you should ensure that you have a moisturizing foot wash, either a foot wash or foot scrub, and washing your feet every day with cool water is very important for protecting your skin from heat.
