Best Non Toxic Nail Salon in Houston

From sapphire blue to a pale gold to neon green, if your nail polish colors are coming from the colors department this Christmas season, you’re not alone. The holiday season is filled with parties, spending hours at a retail store waiting for your order to ship and to gather with your loved ones — which pretty much means the top shelf is full of nail polish options. We’re constantly trying to find the perfect hue and polish formula that suits our coloring preferences (we’re partial to a big statement and bright colors, for example), and it seems like a problem we can probably all handle.

However, we might need to start looking deeper into the roots of our obsession because a nail color primer, like Nivea, is not quite the high-end product it was marketed as in the past.

We spoke with Luscious Lips Nailcare founder and New York-based manicurist Laura Bem, who’s all about Nivea products and zero-touch top coats. She wanted to do a hand-on-cheek treatment that didn’t feel too heavy or excessive.

The best part about Top Coat Nail Renewal has to be its addition of HEBE “B-HOLE” Finish ($16) to the base coat. This base coat contains UV-assisted and anti-blacktop finish nanoparticles that have the ability to penetrate into the polishing compound itself. In layman’s terms, this means that they’ll emit UV light, which allows the polish to stay on your nail for much longer than regular lacquer.

Instead of a top coat, Laura gave her clients a DIY kit to give their nail art quick shine with a topping of HEBE with their usual polish. She went full-on yellow ombre, using the HEBE finish base coat along with a white top coat.

Laura used the Hebe base coat with a brown toned base and three soft pink base coats to give her patients a subtle rosy pinks. She applied the toned paint with a finger and over to them, making sure to pat down the top coat before placing them onto their nails. A suggestion: try layering one over another.

Once the polish is dry, Laura added a generous amount of B-HOLE Finishing with HEBE HINT ($15) to give her clients a fresh manicure.

Laura’s tips are to go small, stay hydrated and definitely consult with your professional to make sure you’re not getting burned.

“I suggest a minimum of 2 coats that contain HEBE texture. The more you play with the process, the more mistakes you will make,” Laura told POPSUGAR. “For the smaller manicure, apply your standard top coat first and then apply HEBE for 2-3 minutes to set the polish. Give yourself extra time if your nail is out of shape or feels too rough.”
