Best Non Toxic Nail Salon in Houston

Nothing impresses a girl more than having her nails in tip-top shape. And with two children and two healthy babies to take care of, finding time to trim ’em isn’t exactly easy. But there are times when you need a quick little polish touch-up before she heads out in the morning. Still, there are plenty of ways you can keep your nails in perfect shape so that you look perfect, too.

Here are 15 tips from Jenna Tharpe, Trina Vo, Kara Hudson, and Erica Fidanza to help you love the look of your nails to the fullest extent. And because brushing and buffing are always in style, we know that a few little fingertip pro tips make all the difference.

1. Strike a good pose while painting.

“Make sure you touch up your nails in a way that will be pleasing to the eye. Creating a profile will make for a better looking nail on your hand as it will have more definition.” — Jenna Tharpe

2. Back the paint brush up.

“Tuck your brush back into your nail flat to prevent that painted flat texture and force your hands to work. Use at least one-fifth of your fingers to create the cuticle outline.” — Erica Fidanza

3. Alternate your strokes.

“Typically when you are painting, you will only use one or two strokes in your nails. This is a habit that leads to weak nails with tough buildup. Alternate your strokes by doing one before then the other. You are catching many more chips by alternating them.” — Trina Vo

4. Pay attention to clean lines.

“Use toner to clean out the cuticle line before painting on your nails to give it fresh shape and style.” — Kara Hudson

5. Master the fade zone.

“If you’re not sure, wait until the faded area is a few days old. You might come back to it and notice a nice spiral line, allowing the cuticle to swirl upwards to catch the drier parts of the cuticle.” — Erica Fidanza

6. Turn your heels inward.

“Hiding your heels from the bottom helps the nail polish dry evenly. Some makeover tricks that work really well: shave before you dry your nails, and move it out of the way. Then place it in the pocket area. And give your heel a shuffle before you tap your nails or scrub at them.” — Jenna Tharpe

7. Treat your brush.

“If you are painting on different layers at once, you will need a brush so that the paint won’t fall into one surface. You’ll need a brush with a thick lip and flat brush tip.” — Erica Fidanza

8. Protect your pomade.

“Don’t use disposable pomade containers with your manicure. Use dish soap to clean the residue from the pomade container. Use a cotton ball to clean any excess residue from your brush.” — Lauren Streicher

9. Keep in mind that tipiness wins over flatness in general.

“Find out which things rub off easily. For example, heels often get messy, so dry off with a hairbrush to remove all the dirt. Lighters and hair ties can also become a problem.” — Jenna Tharpe

10. Keep in mind the end result.

“Nails are like fine artwork. They should leave a pretty signature. Never dress up your nails to the point of being intimidating. Tall nails, cute half-moon nails, those are all beautiful looks but don’t set off another bold ensemble.” — Laura Worth

11. Don’t water them too hard.

“When putting a tip on your nails, soak it about two to three times. Test to see if it doesn’t move. Use a Q-tip to apply a small amount of nail polish. If your polish falls off in the tip, don’t be afraid to turn off the water.” — Laura Worth

12. Keep a clean hand.

“Wipe off your fingers with a cotton ball before you come to frame your nails. Don’t wash them or show your daughter how pretty they are.” — Lauren Streicher

13. Give yourself a massage.

“How often do you take a deep tissue massage? The massage is a way to relax and it also helps your nails firm up. It comes in handy when you are faced with anything else that you have to make quick decisions.” — Lauren Streicher

14. Plan on finishing ’em out.

“Take off any polish that may have been on your nails for more than a day or so. You may want to go through your oil to get rid of any buildup. Having your nails clipped off may help them to regain their healthy shape.” — Lauren Streicher
