Best Non Toxic Nail Salon in Houston

While I absolutely adore my “extended” nails, I am not advocating that you do away with your regular “normal” nails. There is a reason why those talons grow so long and strong – they ARE the best! Your natural nails will not grow fast enough if you refuse to embrace them. However, if you have a tendency to “under-skin” your nails – bring them out.

Let’s talk about healthy nails – why would you ever have broken nails, sunken feet, or skin sores on the backs of your hands? Nails are not made of concrete – they can go through extreme conditions, including freezing temperatures, extreme heat, and extreme water/salt temperatures.

Let’s talk about manicures first – I think some of you don’t realize how many degrees the environment you’re working in can get you. Add a little salt to the lotion – it will exfoliate and leave your skin feeling softer in the end! If you want to look a little more dramatic, you can mix apple cider vinegar into your lotion – it is extremely acidic, but you can apply this mixture on your nails without ending up with coolness, which kills your nails.

With your hand, do you remember those Dew Brighter Manicures you have at the salon? You think that’s nice? I don’t think that is the best manicure possible. When you were drying out your hands, you ran the palm of your hand over the wet nail beds – which causes the bit of skin to shrink and give the manicure a rough look. Keep in mind: big manicures are stressful!

I am definitely not advocating a clean manicure, but a really clean manicure is when the nail file comes out of the case, and is pushed straight down into the nail bed – this is so much cleaner and smoother than having your fingers covering your nail bed – much more therapeutic to your skin.

Let’s say your “nails” are not in tip-top shape – not only will you look gross, but your nails will start to become brittle and fall off – the longer you have weak nails, the more likely they will break. It is wise to keep them healthy until the end of your shift. I personally enjoy “rolling” the nails, but don’t let it happen if you are working to your deadlines.

Have you looked inside your tub lately? There is water in it! When I was a little girl, my mom taught me, “Don’t take your beer bottle out of the tub with you while you’re doing your makeup.” I continue to hold that point in my head every day!

Even if you won’t be the stereotypical model-looking in your manicure, but it’s your skin, – go natural for a nice, healthy, relaxing facial, facial massage, or facial peel.

Last – always remember to Hydrate your nails. I love this ingredient – Atul Gawande in The New Yorker included it in his Harvard Magazine piece, and it’s really good for you. They are a good source of blood circulation, immune system stimulation, and they are a tremendous source of vitamins and minerals, in many ways a better source of nutrition than what we get from the food that we eat on a regular basis.

I will be hosting an event to highlight this topic, so stay tuned for more details!
