The nail art trend can be two-fold: I could spend hours drawing on my digits, or I could sit back and let the nails decide what to look like. While I’d prefer to be left in the former, I did some digging to find out which nail art trends are big right now, and I can confirm that these Thai nail art trends are just as gorgeous as anything else available on Instagram.

Numerous Instagram accounts have come to our attention recently that demonstrate how incredible nail art can be with just two colors: Jet Black and Burgundy. It’s not a good idea to try this at home (or at least not anywhere that you live near Bangkok), as the combination could cause a reaction like burning of your hands or dripping nails, according to the Military Medicine website. So be sure to consult your dermatologist first.

Another popular nail art trend in Thailand is smoky nails. To pull this off, apply a black polish top coat or a matte black top coat. After that, dip your nail into the black top coat, and if you’re quick enough, you can leave it half-done. And even more advanced users can achieve this look with a smudge gun like this one to smudge the top coat across the nail with black polish on top, like Nayan Doordarshan’s ($17) Smudge $7! tool or Nayan Doordarshan’s Smudge $5! tool.

Given the term “showbiz,” as well as this being the industry capital of Asia, these nail art trends are making headway elsewhere, too. Check out five other manicure ideas below.
