Be careful: Don’t give your dog an open and closed mouth while you clip. If he hears your tapping and your fingers are touching his nails, he’ll likely just become pissed and tug at you.

Take a break: If you are really tired and are in a stressful situation, take a break. Some pets can get upset when you are clipping their nails, so it is important to reestablish your patience a few times before continuing.
Please avoid getting too close: My dog hates the sound of me brushing his teeth. She won’t want me to do the same with his nails. However, she loves cleaning his nails as much as she loves brushing them. It’s always best to keep your pet’s nails in tact, no matter what; she’ll happily groom them for you.
The best time to clip is when they are on a leash: Dogs love being able to go to the bathroom on a leash, so use the time wisely. They’ll also appreciate being petted during this time, which will help with the transition back into the real world.
