Cleaning

I never thought polishes could be so water-resistant. I like my nails more delicate than usual lately and need a really, really nice base. People who tend to use nail polishes as a base are usually people who don’t like to wash their hands, so it ends up leaving a dry, rough base. By using L’Oréal Colour Riche Nail Lacquer Instinct Lip Balm I was able to cover all of that surface element with my conditioner and apply nail polish quickly and easily.

I hate to use nail polish remover, but a cleaning solution really works for getting rid of oil and grit. I love Oriflame’s Bleach On It Polish Remover ($4), it can be applied directly to your nail or dried using a cotton ball. Also, nail salons tend to use harsh chemicals in nail products, so it makes it really difficult to keep your fingers clear, so I like ding soap to my polish, too. I love L’Oréal’s scrubbers, which also purify the polish surface. Swirl them around the fingers and then pat them down.

Lip Balm

I’ve always taken care of my lips. I apply a lip balm each and every day, never even thinking twice about it, especially during the week when I don’t have a whole lot of time left and always feel extra-pumpkinlike. Since my lips are not close enough to my temple to fit a lip balm in, it’s important that I apply this lipstick in the center of my mouth. As opposed to one that’s toward the top, which tend to feel bigger and more puckering, a lipstick in the middle of my mouth makes my lips feel plumper. Since using Pro Vogue’s Assouline Lip and Cheek Mascara ($29) gives you a very sculpted look that sits on the side of your mouth, I tend to wear this lipstick toward the center of my lips, too.

Rouge Vix lipstick stays on for a very long time, so I like to take it off before I wash my face or rinse the makeup off. I find that combining this and the Pro Vogue lipstick gives me a natural look that’s very peachy. I also always carry a small potted plant around with me, especially when I go to work. It makes a very beautiful decoration, like a pretty piñata ornaments.

Nail Polish

For a girl who sees nail polish not as art, I don’t normally start my manicure by applying any color (except for a color matching up to/inspired by my current look). I just like to d a little color to the tips of my fingers by swiping along with a little bit of nail polish remover. If I never leave the house, I will use an elaborate design using rhinestones, or at the very beginning of the day I’ll change up my pome and create a quick, popped-out pome with different colors mixed in, which always draws me in.

Today I’m pairing La Prairie’s Sprinkle and Dip Raspberry Restorative Nail Polish ($26) with a white one from Nudes by Nails by Bobbi Brown ($15). I used a little bit on both my thumbs and my fingers and my hands, and my nails started to look very smooth. I’m also starting to see the spre effect of all of this polish, which makes them look very thick and grow larger and thicker, if I do have to reapply.

These colors work best with darker shes, so I’ll be experimenting with the idea of rocking this look this season with burgundy and orange, which is what I’m wearing right now. I really like the idea of matching nails or nails and eyeliner, too, though I probably wouldn’t go with this veryoften.

Beauty Tips

I really like to wash my brushes (because I feel like the brushes are filthy) with a little soap and water before scrubbing, so I try to be careful with the tea tree oil that I use in the inner corners of my eyes or on my glazed eyes, as some people think it’s gross.

Another beauty tip I learned the hard way was to have a hard brush brush very close to me that I can actually reach with the gloves. I still always get my finger nails dirty, so this tip is definitely necessary.

Keep in mind

I never thought polishes could be so water-resistant. I guess it’s in part because most office-based wear of nail polish is going to be in the form of glides, which are mostly opaque and tend to leave a residue on the skin. I’ve learned to always apply nail polish in the afternoons, because the day before I’ll finish the job and still get to bed in time for bed with the polish on. Plus it prevents my nail polishes from drying out so much.

Self-confidence DIY’s

1. Get your nails cut long and sleek, with maybe a little sideboard cuts as you nail cuticles to cuticle extensions.

2. Minimize your nails’ length and keep them neat and toned. I’m a firm believer that a pair of cuticle extensions and buffing scissors can make your nails look as long as four feet.

3. Don’t ever mix polish remover with nail polish remover or something that smells like nail polish remover. Mix them in the store or even with a cloth dipped in white base coat, and base it on flat, but be careful not to mix them.

4. Apply nail polish sparingly, but clean your hands after nails are dried because polish will make your nail nails greasy and grow back in, so don’t be afraid to share nail polish remover with your partner.

5. Apply manicure-strength nail polishes from the tip of your finger on down to the tips of your big toes.

6. After you’ve washed your hands to remove your nail polish, gently massage your nails with a spatula until they get soft and shiny to the touch.

7. Place the tip of your finger next to a nail with the tip of the spatula firmly fixed against the toe of the left foot.

8. Be the lightest she of hot pink on the cat eye you like, but don’t always wear a black- or hot pink-colored eye liner, or a bold, neon colour on the eye. Stay conservative with what you wear, but experiment a little and don’t be afraid to get real edgy, purple, red, yellow, white, and black.

9. Choose gel polishes, which are easier to apply and need less cleaning, and never use wet, nail polish remover with nails or in between coats. Dip a cotton ball in nail polish remover, and touch up areas that look particularly neat.

10. Purchase delicate nail art frames, or or glass nail art works of art, such as Sephora’s limited edition electRIC nail trinkets. I like the line Queenies Nails’ Rogue Nails and much prefer their custom painted nail chairs over the more mass-produced ones at my beauty mega-store.

11. At your makeup counter, use a strong layer of concealer under your lip line to hide your show under the natural skin color your lip line is under.

12. Beauty comes in all shes, from pale to bright, so if you tend to pull together bleached blonde-haired girls, d a soft wash of aqua to your dark coiffure.
