1. Head it up! You may be familiar with that, but you’ll also learn you should apply pressure to the tip of your nails. If you like to make your nails look a little sultry and worn-out you’ll do better by applying a polish that has a little added shine.

2. Use the right product. Use the right liquid and chalkless polishes. The right polish to use is the one that holds. I’ve found that whenever I’m applying polish I really need to play it safe. I don’t want to scratch the surface and look like I’ve taken my topcoat off. That’s why my go-to polish is probably The Nail Oil. With it, I can put on polish and coat the tips of my nails without worrying that it will run off or leave an orange stain. There’s also a clay formula called The Nail Lipton that does a great job on nails. If you’re partial to aloe vera, then I recommend doing some applications of that. It gives my nails great softness and a beautiful sheen.

3. The shape is really important. If your nails tend to be on the clumpy side or have spots, then you’ll likely want to do them up. For perfect chunky nails I would suggest Sassa Essentials Nail Powder.

4. The three steps are in the same place. Begin by flattening the nail with an adhesive (usually gel) or an adhesive pen. Once flat you can begin painting nails. Apply your nail polish of choice. Continue polishing as usual.

5. Be aware that your manicure may look short. For that reason you might want to wear contact lenses while your manicure is on. Or find another option. Whatever you do, make sure to take your time when painting nails. You’ll feel right at home and you won’t have to worry about ruining your polish. This also means you’ll have some time to get ready for your next date. Make sure you use the nail polishes that you know and love.

6. Check with the company how to remove polish. A majority of the time, they have a removal service which will remove any residue. Most companies even offer aftercare services if they leave glue around. Remember the polish should be removed because it is supposed to last. If your nails are on the yellow side, you should look to applying a topcoat to them. That will give you great polish longevity. If your nails are like mine and they are on the red side, they should see some damage and require some removals.

7. The ends are the best. Sometimes we use our natural nails to finish our manicure. The ends are a great finishing touch and have a nice addition.

8. Natural and graphic. Don’t fret if you just started on your manicure. Keep trying nail polishes for a while. Also, keep experimenting with stencils, creams, and silks. These can give you an array of colors and finish off your nails.
