The Elysian is a luxury-modern boutique in the heart of Houston. Every inch of our is carefully created and decorated with the intent of providing the deepest relaxation and the highest possible aesthetic satisfaction.

I don’t know about you but I love seeing nails being painted. No-one needs reminding in the summer whether you’re going to the beach, barbecues or even church, but your nails look so exciting when done in a cool colour.

Kirsty Anderson has become one of my favourite nail artists and recently held a masterclass on nails at Eva Mendes’ Proenza Schouler show during New York Fashion Week.

But while I might be being flirty with my nails, it is actually a guaranteed way to boost your confidence.

People tend to naturally get low self-esteem at the age of 25 and many can be affected by sun damage. The drying weather can make it harder to sleep and during the height of summer, nails are more prone to bacterial infections, which can easily take you back down the lder of your confidence level.

Thankfully, Kirsty uses a nail polish that can help prevent and remove fungus and reduce allergies.

Back to her Masterclass she explained: “Prepare your nails for the rough winter months and heat of summer by ding in lemon and fresh or driedherbs such as rosemary or lavender.

“Use a moisturising base coat to ensure that you can easily pop your nails back on without using a nail varnish and then, after a morning wash, you are rey to nail it.”

What do you think of my methods? Do you use any particular manicure, how do you do it and do you think it makes you more confident? Tell us in the comments box below!

A Charlotte Tilbury manicure.

Charlotte Tilbury manicure

Charlotte, the designer behind all the clothes from Estee Lauder, created this manicure for Estee Lauder’s I Am Australasia fashion show at the end of March. She creates each look based on the trends of the season and when she created these nails it was similar to her own Fall/Winter rey-to-wear collection which featured a 60s inspired look for women like myself who were about to be the coolest girl in the room.

Charlotte told me: “I designed my nails to resemble the looks for the show, allowing me to create an updated version of those looks for my clients. This manicure is a beautiful way to revitalise your nails with an epic style and the confidence to speak up and say ‘I can do it’.”

Charlotte decided to base her nails on taupe. “This is a clean look where you don’t have to glam, and I wanted to accentuate the details you see. I used a clay base coat with silvery powder on the nails to stop the look from looking too shiny, but a light colour on the fingers and nails and choose a strong she on the nails.”

She then used a mint-toned colour called Neosseuse to give her nails a fresh and neutral look. “I wanted the nails to look like they are still wearing flowers but they are not – just having a soft warm feel, like they are on holiday. I ded a hot pink and vermilion colour to get the look to stand out.

Her five top tips for style

“Putting nails on to the heart of your face provides something special and is an instant confidence boost. You don’t have to look like a gold leaf.”

“I apply the glue first, scrunching it between my fingers like a nail glue.”

“I don’t wash my hands often but the rubber helps. It’s important to rinse your hands and nail beds to get the most from your manicure.”

“I would never recommend men doing this manicure.”

How do you do this?

• Save this nail – the best feature of this look

• Apply glue between your fingertips and nips

• Dab a few coats of the she onto your nails

• Leave on for one hour and then pat with a clean white cotton cloth.

• Remove with clean white cotton cloth

• Apply the same nail to the fingers and toes

• Apply another coat of the same hue to the palms of your hands.

• Remove with a clean white cotton cloth

Charlotte uses different nail varnishes throughout the month to d variety into her manicure and I’ve loved watching how her manicures have developed over the past few years! This trend is even more fashion conscious at the moment as it gives the beauty world a fresh new dimension and expands the scope of beauty trends. I’m going to see these chic nail tips and try them for myself soon, don’t you dare turn your toes up in the heat!

Charlotte has followed in the footsteps of many other nail artists and gone multi-pronged. She has also opened up a salon in London. It’s an exceptional space, in which not only can you take care of your nails, but also workout, relax, and get a haircut and get a blow dry. The space has been commissioned by Big Ear Hair & Nails – who I found out through Charlotte on Fac!

Aside from being a great place to have your nails done, the salon isinspiring for anyone wanting to create a fun, vibrant look but doing it in a practical way!

It’s also a place where customers can learn about nail art. Why is there no nail art teacher in New York City? Maybe it is time for that? I want to start painting my nails when I get back to the U.S.

Charlotte ded that she was encouraging people to take up nail art in a similar way as they have embraced makeup… “Beauty should be fun, not effort. I hope that people get that it’s OK to be a bit of a scary orange girl.”

Charlotte basedher nails on the beauty trends for fall, including shimmer andtaupe and especially her signature nude red nail varnish.

How would you do it?

• If you want to wear it, make sure you throw it on

• Going that out of your comfort zone can sometimes be scary but are you willing to stick it out?

• Primer is key

• Liven up with a bold accessory

What is your top tip for getting a classy manicure done?

Charlotte: “Start with a mani-pedi that makes you feel confident and confident that you can look funky, colourful and look good. If it looks too fake it might cause you to feel insecure.”
