Nails seem to be one of those things that everyone uses the same exact color. (Although I’m not really a fan of even “neutral shades”) There is some good news though, and it’s not all bad news: Chemical Free Nail Polish is reducing many harmful chemicals that have been found to be in the majority of nail polishes on the market, and just like most products in the “fairer skin” category (non-toxic makeup, skin care, etc.), it not only provides an eco-friendly alternative, but it also has a positive effect on your nail health as well.

Eco-friendly nail products and tools are sure to be a game changer for the environment and the masses, but what is Chemical Free Nail Polish really made out of? You might be surprised.

The “pureen,” like most non-toxic nail polish on the market, is made from 100 percent plant-based materials, including coconut oil, jojoba oil, lavender oil, beeswax, and essential oils. Green Solutions has partnered with Kai Uni for a year-long testing phase to find that green is best, so Kai Uni is staying true to the green treatment process. You only need three “no” stickers to claim a complete system-made of non-toxic, plant-based ingredients.

Here’s how it works: Fill three green stickers with negative “no” prints. By using the “no” stencil, you are in essence telling your polish you want to remove the five stickers, so others can be applied while you wait. You can seal with the final “no” seal for a sustainable and green polish system that’s also available online. (However, make sure you have black nails to avoid every single person coming up behind you and leaving your manicure taste without any color.)

I went to hand off a few from my fingertips to a black hand to watch the process in action — check out my video below to see how the stickers should look and taste, and then at the end of the video, I fill in a “no” sticker with the “no” adhesive.

To finish my handiwork, I wanted to prove that it works. I’m a quickidious owner of Matte’n Nails, so it was a joy to share the process with everyone in my home. (As possible see in the video, the lovely technician Robyn from El Paso has been following the process diligently and nails were totally “matched.”) After a few lessons, I guess you can say it goes without saying that chemicals aren’t a prerequisite for a healthy and successful manicure, which is exactly why I love Chemical Free Nail Polish. If it works, chances are you will have more positive things to say about your manicure than anything else you’ll be saying about your mani on the day, right? Right!

If you’re not a fan of green nail polish (or you’re just not sure about Nail’s system), this story is a great reminder that all things deserve a second chance.

We, as consumers, should embrace beauty products with as little waste as possible, since resources are finite. Nail polish is particularly expensive, and it’s always nice to know that you’re supporting local, natural, and alternative industries. Maybe your next manicure won’t be a dab of glue and a few white crystals, but rather an honest process of colors that can improve the beauty of your nails — it’s a win-win for everyone involved. Keep checking back to keep our tips for the best manicures, no matter what the color is on your fingertips, well in tact.
