Best Non Toxic Nail Salon in Houston

Nails aren’t just about looking pretty or even getting the perfect mani — it’s also about getting away with them if you’re a sextuplet. And according to nails expert Adie Davis, the secret to getting them looking truly flawless is to listen to your inner barber. She uses a little bit of philosophy and a lot of common sense on the perfect nail look.

When it comes to how to get perfect nails, it really is all about not going overboard, says Davis. “Keep your toenails as de-orchestrated as possible. The more you try to eliminate it, the more you’re going to look at it,” she says. “If there’s some pock marks on it, you just keep looking.”

In addition to patting your nails down before washing, she recommends washing your hands to dry them and applying a scrub to both sides of the nail before you pat it down with a Q-tip. She also swears by a soothing foot cream with sea salt in it as a quality foot balm. “There’s a lot of complications to keeping your toenails clean in your own environment, so your toe pads and your heel pad are exposed to a lot of moisture. Once you scrub them with a foot scrub, if you just keep scrubbing them, you’re only helping them get better.”

Clip-on “pointy” combs you can wear under your nails to help secure your nails as well. “[This is] the best way to keep a smooth base without letting your nails fall to your base line. Every little nail pointie helps,” she explains.

If you’re not very confident on your own, however, it’s also helpful to hire a professional nail tech or manicurist. “A good manicurist will apply polish and trim. A great technician will put on acrylics. They’ll give you salon manicures, and they’ll do your color. The job is a complete team because we don’t know all of that ourselves,” says Davis.

Whatever you decide to do, there are some things that can absolutely help. “Once you have them up — that’s it. You shouldn’t go back under them,” says Davis. But she suggests getting them as long as you can to see how the shape comes into the shape and how they develop. “Every person’s nail is different. So when you get in and touch them, it’s just a completely different look.”

Davis also has some extra tricks to help keep your nails from getting split in the long run. First, she recommends avoiding polishes that use acetone. “Acetone cracks nails,” she says. Instead, she favors white nail polish with no streaks on it to avoid splitting. “When you get the texture of the nail and you have that brush, it’s going to pull it all the way up.”

When it comes to sticking them to your paw, she recommends taking them off first because they will pick up things that you’re not looking for in your shadow or on your hands. After putting them back, she suggests putting a drop of water on your hand to keep it clean. It’s also a good idea to keep the water out of your claws so you can clean them without these excess oils. And finally, she stresses the importance of sunscreen. “The difference between a normal healthy and beautiful nail is how you keep them healthy,” she says.
