Best Non Toxic Nail Salon in Houston

If you’ve ever watched someone get so much mileage out of a few strategically angled nails, you’ve probably had your own pet name for specific species, such as a “mewing manicure” and a “cat bungy.” We spoke to Dr. Angela Notoni, Owner of Trims for Life and trimming expert in Reno, NV, for more tips and tricks on how to help give your pet a pedicure.

Tips for Trimming Your Pet’s Nails

1. If you have nails that you must trim, simply hold your pet’s foot under a cup of water while you cut the nails. It takes about 1 minute or so to get the cuts done. If you need to trim a nail more than once, do it for quick updates.

2. As you’re trimming, be sure to be aware of your pet’s other nail length. Do not pinch the nail (it’s an unattractive look) or cut into the nail bed (the more surfaces you trim, the less natural looking your pet’s nail will be).

3. Be sure to give the tip of the nail plenty of room before you remove the tips. The tips should only be removed after the entire nail is reattached.

4. Always trim your pet’s nails the same way, whether it is an easy trim, like a little finger hair, or you need to clip a whole leg. Always use long, triangular nails, and when trimming a normal length nail, make sure to lightly fill in all corners.

5. Use a clean, dry blade with a sharpened bar, nail file, or hand tool to make sure your nail is completely dethroned.

Tips for Donating Your Pet’s Nails To an Animal Rescue

1. Don’t cut your pet’s nails while they are wet. This is totally unnecessary.

2. The trick to making some of those cute punctuation marks you often see on nails is to actually reattach them with a regular file and lock them in place. Always make sure to reattach them as close to the original length of the nail as possible.

3. Never cut a child’s nail. Never ever! A baby’s nail is actually under the skin and makes a statement that would make the cat or dog upset. And instead of biting off half of a nail, it will end up on the inside of your pet’s mouth or belly.

4. Don’t cut the nails when you are ailing. The pet would not be able to heal properly in those painful states.

5. Put kitty litter in your cat or dog’s kitty litter to promote the growth of nails. It will not hurt the animal and will give them more nail growth.

6. Do not trim your pet’s nails while they are really small or curled because a small cut can cause an allergic reaction. Otherwise, be careful to not cut out the entire nail!

7. Don’t trim your pet’s nails with any petroleum-based products. Some of those products are harmful. Always use a vegetable or vegetable-based nail polish.

8. Always make sure your pet doesn’t have a loose nail. Make sure you clean up after them and always get rid of any leftover waste.
