The Monochromatic Mani Is Taking Over Instagram — And Here’s How To Get It

Is it your skin tone that’s all of a sudden everywhere you look? Perhaps you’re gracing every fashion editorial and runway show with a spotless face, leaving behind the #tan issue we’re obsessed with? Is it the blinding monochromatic manicure on your thumbs and nails? Are we seeing more of them lately? It’s time to help your nails have the spotlight once again. And, thanks to the Instagram community called, for better or worse, #MiamiSublime (which has over 500,000 followers), it’s easy to try. The phenomenon started when a makeup artist named Hattie McCracken posted a photo of a few black and white nails to her Instagram last December and a mini style frenzy ensued. “I’d been using black and white to get through the holidays, but it seems people were enjoying the idea,” she told Refinery29. Her tip? Create a contrast between the nails with a different hue of black polish on your finger or toe and the manicure. It sounds simple, but girls go wild for these.

Hattie taught us how to create these colorful designs. But if you’re not ready to embark on a new nail obsession, we recommend you find other ways to stay in the brightly hued realm.
