Best Non Toxic Nail Salon in Houston

While I’m all about long nails as part of a style makeover, there’s just something very cool about having them grow naturally. This isn’t something that you can simply doctor with bottles of nail glue — it has to be a natural part of your nail growth, not a home remedy for mini miracles. Before you start asking friends about their natural nail growth tips and tricks, there are a few things you need to know before you go experimenting.

Although the natural method works, not everyone can go this route. “Once a week, I spend a couple of hours in the sun. This is the best way to get a beautiful and strong cuticle and healthy nails without damaging my nails,” explains Jenny Koh, a Nail-utritionist, Nail Stylist, and Personal Trainer.

To get a foundation for long nails, Jenny uses lemon juice. “I always add it to my bed sheets in the morning,” she says. If you’ve already started to grow your nails, then you are much better off combining some lemon juice with a base coat, an oil, or a heat protectant. Jenny recommends giving your nails a boost with a top coat twice a week and more often if you are growing nails out. Be sure to never use nail polish remover to remove this.

While everyone can be a little stubborn to add fruit-based ingredients into their nail kits, there are a few tips you should keep in mind:

3-4 days a week: use a natural or nail-healthy oil

5 days a week: wear gel polish

21-32 days a week: use a natural base coat

“The best way to go is to let your nails grow naturally, because a lot of times, you get nail gels that are sprayed with chemical, and you have this crippling infection, while natural nail oils are kind of dried and look like chameleons. I would say if you can, add a little fruit flavor to your nail oils, like lemon or apple,” adds Don Wilson, a nail technician and Personal Trainer.

Here are some tips from the pros on how to grow longer nails naturally:

Hands up: When cutting nails, don’t begin cutting from one side to the other! You’ll end up shaving them short. A natural cuticle will keep your cuticles looking healthy and keep your nails from chipping and cracking.

Wear sunblock: Blame it on the sun, but the stronger your cuticles, the more vibrant your nails will appear. If you’re planning on wearing acrylic nails, then you might want to try a UV toning polish like Happy Nails Antioxidant Sunblock Gel and make sure to wear it every day.

Always wear your manicure on the same day: Generally speaking, we only get a few days between getting our nails done each week and then washing them and cutting them again. This is a good way to avoid making bedtime discussions.

Don’t overderexpose your nails: Your nails get bigger over time, so you have to be extra careful to stay below a 2-millimeter line.

Remove shavings: When you take your nails off the brush, you have to immediately remove any remaining natural cutsicles and also peel your cuticles off. After a couple of days, you can apply moisturizer to prevent future ingrowns.

On the other hand, in case you aren’t ready to make these changes for your hands, skip this step and just apply a coating of nail cream, oil, or gel.
