I can’t believe how bad some people’s advice is to women looking to start a family and have careers.

They tell us that having a baby before having a career will only mess up our future career. Really? You won’t be able to achieve either goal!

This advice is simply prejudice, it’s stereotyping. It holds women back from achieving things. In turn, women with poor career and job choices suffer.

I’ve had enough of the constant guff, especially from the men in my life.

There are thousands of brilliant men in all fields of life that have a brilliant CV and fabulous resumes but are still struggling with making the right career decisions to tackle what the men in their lives are telling them to do.

Men are in charge of career progression all over the place. If a woman doesn’t go into the same field they chose for her, she’s asked to take time off work to have a baby.

Don’t believe the crap that some men say? Here are some of the worst examples from here on out.

• “Don’t work overnight.” People do double shifts and work 80+ hours to pay their bills and cover childcare costs.

• “Don’t have the baby right after the anniversary of your marriage.” Even if the child will be conceived in the first two months of a relationship.

• “You’ll be too tired when the baby is born.” Yeah right.

• “Don’t work for a specific employer. Go freelance.” Not so much freelance, like when you don’t get a contact?

• “Don’t go near finance when you’re having a baby. It’s uncomfortable.”

• “Don’t go back to work before the baby’s old enough to read.” Don’t go to work on Christmas day when you’re having the baby? Some people aren’t well educated.

• “Don’t work in the ‘men’s’ industry.” Yes, maybe?

• “Do it all at once.” OMG, no one does that, especially not someone in their 30s and your job should keep you very busy.

• “Don’t have children on your mother’s side.” Thanks a lot, people who live in a city, you don’t know your story and you think your views on working woman are the best you have to offer.

• “Don’t have babies, there’s nothing to do there.” Well hello there, there’s loads of work and opportunities in your Dad’s building site and don’t you forget it!

• “Leave when you’re at the top.” Sorry, but that’s what we do! Find a remote office with a viewing booth and stay home most days.

• “Manage your time.” Don’t do this because you’re the oldest in the office and people gossip on you all the time and you’re scared of losing your job, but your colleagues will happily tell you that when you do go to work.

What I want is for everyone in our industry to stand up and represent all those women who are honest about what they want and don’t have time for such rubbish advice.
