Each month, our esteemed beauty guru, Caitlin, shares some of her favorites out there, like tips for long-lasting polish and removing polish. This month, she shares her secrets for creating a carefree summery look with gel polish.

Beneath that smoldering sun, there sits something beautiful. Gel polish. Inste of relying on oil, the gel technique functions like oil. Basically, with gel polish, your nails are sprayed with liquid and then safely and comfortably washed. But before you try it for yourself, check out Caitlin’s tips on 15 best nail colors for summer and gel polish in general.

1. Use a base color, then a matte top color, and then stain create using paint.

The base color makes the whole look great. It gives you confidence of being safe in the first application. It reflects light and brings out your color.

2. Don’t forget to use a fan brush and a (subtle?) liquid buffer that has UV absorbers that can be used as buffers.

Many clients spray the base color first, so be sure to do that first. Use a translucent brush to smooth your base color. Do not spray for more then a second. Inste, use a small shimmer powder that is hidden in the brush, and then dry gently with a fan brush. It comes out absolutely sheer.

3. Always use a precise fan brush to clean the gel paint.

Begin where you would layer gel polish and work your way back to cover completely. Start out using a precise fan brush. Then, blend back in the gel paint. These multi-stroke brushes are good. They give an intense heat paste that ds texture and color to the looks.

4. Use a brush dipped in clear nail oil to apply gel polish.

Apply the gel polish to a clear bottle with clear polish oil. The oil helps hydrate the gel polish. It also helps prevent it from leeching off. After applying it, tap it clean with a brush. This also keeps it from trying to glue off, or smudge itself.

5. Use a sponge to do the actual bonding.

Start with a clear polish ball. This also gets to work well on a smaller surface so as to open up the gels and leave them more complete.

6. Use a clean sponge to press the gel paint together.

Use a few swipes from a lint roller for the best results.

7. Use a liquid stick or sponge to dot the entire line with your base and one or two swipe as needed.

Most gel paints will have a polymer film embedded in it. It will not here easily to the fingers. So use a gel stick, a liquid stick, or something else you can clean it off.

8. Use a brush dipped in clear nail oil (like “Foxy Beauty Friend” — 9+ steps to the process) to buff the entire nail and wipe off polish.

9. Place the gel as close as possible to the cuticle.

After smooth the nail, slowly begin to place a finger on the entire finger to apply. Make sure to rub your finger to give it a smooth, even coating. Then close the plate.

10. Top the entire look off with polish remover, and set it with silicone Top Coat.

Caitlin prefers Top Coat but silicone may work well.

11. Create a gel thin line with baby powder and lipstick or a stain.

Create a gorgeous nail design with these two things: baby powder and lipstick. If you’re looking for a more finished look, just substitute baby powder with ground up scrunchies, silky lotion, or anything else that you can find in the kitchen cupboard.

12. Dab a little gel polish with the tip of a tissue.

First remove the nail polish with a hairpins, and then dab it with a tissue. If it’s not too wet, use a buffer. This helps make the gel smooth.

13. Blend the finalcolor with a red, brown, or navy rimless dress.

Dip a coat of lipstick on a strip of egg paper. Then draw a thin line on the top using the lip of your lipstick. Then, draw a thin line with the egg paper on the bottom. Finish it off with a coat of oil and blow it dry.

14. Voila! As long as you use a gel, the smile will just keep coming out.

If you’re constantly smudging your look, try to lay down the color a little bit. Make sure you use a blend before you swipe on your two fingers.

15.If you decide to go the nails-only route, then you can do whatever you want with the gel.

Most gel polishes come in a variety of color options. If you don’t know what hue you want, just stick to a certain hue.

Your only job is to create it in your best possible eye.
