My beauty obsession started quite early, as I was very early to the natural and undone phase. I could not get enough of playing with textures and letting them take center stage. After a few years of working and living in New York City, I was convinced that I was supposed to grow into it. By the time I graduated high school, it was clear I didn’t need any more time. I was going to surf the wave that was natural hair and let the wave become the biggest wave of mine. My best friends were natural hair girls, and I was drawn to their energy and energy-filled every-day life. One day, I just hit “delete” and started getting rid of my long straight hair.

I still maintained my blonde hair, but color has never been the go-to look for me. It was time to take the decision away from my head and surrender to my body and my natural texture. Now, I do not worry about dying my hair at all. I just soak up what the light brings to me. It really is my simple way of giving the look freedom and access to limitless possibilities. I want you to take the leap too. You can look back on how natural/slick/curly/shafted you used to be and feel amazing about your transformation and what you can do for your life. The more you go, the more you will understand. Yes, natural hair changes so drastically when hair grows back, but I promise this cycle doesn’t end.

In 2018, I had the true opportunity to play with my hair. It flowed and flowed in a way I’ve never felt. Having longer hair allowed me to feel free and give a natural me some swag at the same time. I am not going to lie: I don’t lose my mind or break down when it happens because the beauty is exactly what I want all of the time. To me, the world is a canvas, and I have no problem turning something black into white. If you already don’t care about hair, if you think the issue is the length, come on, now’s the time to create some new styles — try out chignons, dreads, buns, spikes, and everything in between. Natural hair is what’s hot for us this season!
