Nikita Dragun brings together the best of old and new, combining the Asian aesthetic with the classic Hollywood glamour. The 35-year-old is a bride of all trades and a pinup of every color. The gorgeous fashion and beauty blogger is just as comfortable swiping across bronzer for a Sunday brunch or Tarte Loose-Setting Powder. She’s a beauty connoisseur who has skills beyond the basics, which makes her the perfect brand ambassador to work with, according to makeup artist Regina York.

In fact, she loves working with Nikita’s namesake brand, Nikita Beauty ($29-$39), so much that she’s made it her #BeautyGirlEveryday thing. The West Bend, Wis.-based makeup artist chatted with POPSUGAR about how she ended up working with the artist and what beauty tips she plans to put on her next masterclass. Read on!

PopSugar: How did you originally get started on makeup?

Regina York: From reading the mascara in teenage magazine, to raiding my sister’s drawer at home to find my first false lashes — and since then, makeup has become a lifestyle.

PS: What is the best beauty tip that you’ve ever learned from Nikita?

RY: Be aware of why you’re putting something on your face — as well as different techniques to put it on. Skin needs special care and attention, just like your hair.

PS: What should we be doing with our eyebrows right now?

RY: Be honest with yourself when you’re doing a brow job. The goal is to not overpluck. Unless you want to look like crazy anime characters.

PS: What is the worst thing that you’ve ever gotten in the mouth from a brush or make up brush?

RY: I’ve had situations where products have caught in teeth and bitten my jaw. And then when I tried to feel it afterwards, it just ached like mad. I also had a brush that a celebrity friend sold me just for my skin and she didn’t pick up a single barb and left it in my mouth, so I guess it was human error on her part.

PS: What is one process you’ve always loved in makeup artistry?

RY: Creating a glint of color to get the fullest effect for a wet skin look. A heavy, matte base — almost water-based. I use MAC’s Soft Liner or eyeshadow to create the reflection of bright color for a high-impacted look.

PS: Why is it important for you to present amazing beauty trends from the past and bring back the concept of how we should do our makeup?

RY: In the 21st century, we are looking for the next big thing — and we are also in danger of looking back in the year 2000 because that’s how boring we’ve become. I’m worried about America’s Beauty Icon and our life chances. I love millennials like myself because we’re going to bring back the 20th century. The trend from the classic Hollywood glamour we all loved in the sixties, and the modern day edgy vibe we love now. I’m so excited to show a new look to the world.

PS: What do you miss most about doing your own makeup?

RY: Traveling with my friends. So many beauty supplies we collect — from glitter to products that we only use once. It is the best.

PS: What’s a makeup lesson you want to share with your fans?

RY: Be patient. You need to follow your gut. It’s hard for us to anticipate what our skin needs, but that doesn’t mean we have to wait for the results.

PS: What should we always have in our handbag that we can use to create any signature look?

RY: MAC Illuminator. I find the shade that compliments my skin tone most. Also Lancôme chubby foundation. Good ones work with skintone that you choose. I think I may have to have a make up bag filled with them!
