These 5 Tips Will Make Your Nails Smell Good All Winter Long

If you’re anything like me, the last thing you want to do is figure out a way to stop your besties from piling onto your lips in your daughter’s high school prom pictures or to stop your sister from cracking wise in front of friends at the holiday office party. As much as these things mean to us, we desperately want to look pretty (and pleasing to our friends’ eyes) all year long.

For me, that means securing your mani every night with your princess braids and lipstick. This holiday season, though, I needed to get serious about achieving smooth and manicured digits.

Over the past few months, I’ve noticed that my nails have dulled and have become brittle. I can’t bear to let them dry out like this anymore! So I started looking at trends, what’s in the ointment I might say, and I’m convinced that the simple steps below will help you tame your nails and freshen up your look.

If your nails are dull and cold, ensure they can breathe! I try to spend as much time as possible drying my nails before bed. Place a wire brush over my nails and place a soft spring towel over top of the wire brush and let it work its magic. Focus on the tips first and then move to the other ends. It’s extremely important that you dry your nails every single night!

Remember, a good manicure does not always mean a mani; in fact, many of my nails are really dry and brittle because they never have a manicure! A double-duty product that can keep your nails properly moisturized, plumped, and de-streaked can help prolong your life. I love OPI Oh My Nails! ($7) because it can keep my fingers, manicure, and outer lip pout moist and soft for almost a week.

Avoid super high-pressure manicures when they could lead to a mishap. High-pressure manicures have a tendency to grind your nail beds and cause the nails to redden and dry out. Less is more, people! When the odds are stacked against you and you need to do a nail polish job, buy the extra polish! That way, you can dab it over your nails and let it settle before applying it to your nails.

Remember, prepping your nails with a good amount of product and a warming procedure before bedtime can go a long way. If you are looking for a great nighttime nail care product, check out FabLip.com’s favorites here.
