Ava Mears and Ava Drummond are both mother and daughter, so when Ava, 2, was presented with a pair of teeny tiny baby nail clippers and asked by her mom to cut her nails, Ava was not thrilled.

“It was my 16th birthday and I wanted to let my daughter give me the gift I hadn’t gotten yet — her 10th birthday present,” Ava’s mom, Tessa Mears, said in an interview with Eating Well. “But I said, ‘No, I can’t do that.’ They’re toddlers and they can’t be cut. Plus, I think the baby says when mommy looks bad.”

Fortunately, a few things came to mind. “I thought it was funny that this tiny thing was trying to peek into our bedroom,” Tessa said. “My next thought was my husband of almost 11 years was having some sleep problems. The other thought was that these nails are very low tech and they would take a while to get back to full size.”

In order to fix it, Tessa and Ava worked together and found a product for the fix. “I put the polish (which wasn’t even out yet) on her little clippers and pinned her nails with a couple of jewelery clips,” Tessa said. “After five minutes we were done. Just another example of how simple it is to do.”
