Best Non Toxic Nail Salon in Houston

This year, we’ve reached that time of year when many of us are obsessing over the rituals, rituals, rituals that we set out for ourselves to do for ourselves—like doing our laundry, applying our makeup, getting our hair done and (God forbid) washing our hands. But how many of us actually follow through on those rituals?

HuffPost asked a group of our favorite experts to share their top nail-related tricks and tips to help you prioritize and accomplish your New Year’s resolutions. From skipping the polish a day early to order out, here are 12 incredible tips from our expert panel:

1. Avoid polish remover every day.

“I always say to not use a polish remover, or at least skip it every day. So if you have to go to bed, use dry shampoos or soap with methylated hydrocarbons (aka formsaldehyde) for a quick fix. For example, VO5 Oats Clean Shampoo, which has methylated hydrocarbons (MHC) in it, helps clear out the toxins in your body by breaking down oil, soapy water and other leftover chemicals you’ve been carrying around all day. If you use the use of this regularly, it should take the edge off of polishes that have oil left on them, but don’t forget to always dry your hands in the bathroom sink because detergent is odorless.” —Mike Kamin, assistant nail tech (Beaute Nail Bar New York)

2. Eat healthy and happy foods.

“Eat the healthy options, because you’ll feel better and your nails will be healthier. If you crave something extra salty or spicy, order it at lunchtime. When that was left off your to-do list, your nails will come back worse than normal (and one day you won’t even remember why). All of that hard work in the gym, gym and gym will come back to haunt you. It is not worth the jump.” —Duane Dean, certified nail technician (Do I Need Nails)

3. Go out to get a manicure.

“Treat yourself to a full-fledged manicure and pedicure. Clean nails and a freshly lasered thumbnail make perfect recovery nails. If you’re short on funds, you’re missing out on one of the most expensive things you can invest in. It will make you feel powerful again!” —Christina Pajinca, manicurist (Rainforest Nail & Spa in Miami Beach)

4. Skip the polish.

“By skipping the polish and just using a dry shampoo, you won’t put stress on your nail polish, which can ultimately make your nail polish wear out. Dry shampoos, which consist of a small amount of salon-quality shampoo mixed with a condensed formula that is formulated to turn dry hair into a pillow-fairylike color, are a great tool to get your nails a fresh manicure and softening touch. Dry shampoo-coated nails with the first hint of luster remain shiny throughout the day.” —Taylor Schofield, owner and lead manicurist (Fresch Artistry, Delray Beach)

5. Use your cleanser twice.

“Cleansers contain a protective film that builds up and slows down the process of regrowth. It’s easier to notice the difference when you constantly wash your hands. Go back to using your cleanser after washing and the surface will gradually peel away the protective film. After two or three uses, the effect will be more noticeable on peeled and dried out nails.” —Rebecca Engert, owner of Ana Heal Nails and Spa in Orlando, Florida

6. Don’t reuse your nail file.

“Wash your hand thoroughly, and get some tweezers. Hang onto the tweezers by pushing it into you fingers and gently grip them. Then, as you tighten the tweezers and the file with your fingers, pinch the tip of the file between your thumb and index finger, and lift the nail. If the nail separates but stays on the file, don’t worry—let go! Just, as you squeeze, let the nail continue to rise up with the angle. If you feel the nail is too rigid and is hanging on the loose tip of the file, you may need to change to a different shape. Also, don’t reuse the same file. There is a great vintage-looking toe file that comes in a variety of shapes and textures, but most of the time, you’ll have to buy new ones!” —Jeffrey Tanenbaum, nail technician (Treece Nails &
