Everyone knows about massages and the healing properties of massages, but does this mean that massages are all we need? When it comes to pedicures, we generally consider spa treatments a perk of a spa visit. The truth is, you may need a pedicure more than just a spa treatment.

In a 2015 Huffington Post article titled, “This Is Why You Need a Pedicure,” Christa Prather presents research that shows frequent spas clientshave higher levels of certain protective chemicals in their skin and body, which could be linked to low levels of exercise and stress. People have also discovered that pedicures remove certain medications, while exercise may help reverse skin aging and prevention of bacterial infection.

And if you feel like a full-blown spa treatment isn’t necessary, this article shows how manicures, pedicures, and massage could all be the same thing.

Nail Care Tips

Get Directions

Most nail salons know that getting directions isn’t so great. If they don’t, you may miss a date, your cab ride home, or even your local shopping store. Keep track of your travel time at Tripit.com or SMS “get directions” to 364749.

Don’t Get Stuck in The Den

Easier said than done! Even the most haphazard place can feel like a crowded, incredibly messy desert. Don’t just drive into a parking lot alone. Maps with audio instructions are great for connecting with other drivers. (If you need help, you can get an English translation)

Keep your Space

When you’re getting rey for an evening out or attending a social event, leave the parking lot behind. Keep in mind that many salons don’t have parking lots. Sometimes walking in the desert will be the most efficient way to get there.

Limit Your Drinking

When you’re getting your nails done, you may want to speed up the pace a bit. (The last thing you want to do is drive home after your pedicure!) It might make more sense to try drinking water rather than purchasing one of those “persona” cocktails, which are usually very rich and heavy and would really throw your natural balancing system off. (OK, so that one’s supposed to be good for you. Have we mentioned alrey that cocktail flavors cause more b breath than tea?)

Stop Feeling Guilty

Maybe you’re driving by a salon when you think, “Wow! I spent all this money to get my nails done!” Do you have any tendency to eat while eating? What about when you share a meal with family and friends, which is when you want to have that hour of rest afterward? These are all activities which cause stomach acid reflux. Look for salons that offer an herbal oil that soothes your stomach and can take the sting out of eating something acidic.

Keep Your Sweatouts Moisturized

If you’re getting your feet prepped, learn what your “rules of thumb” for toe-care are! Are you surprised that the bare toes can be the last to cleanse after a pedicure? I’m surprised. Well, you may be, but, overall, your feet will appear and feel fresher for the rest of the day. They also don’t get a second wind of polishing oils that your ears and lips get afterwashing off a washcloth.

Shoulder Pain and a Morning’s Worry?

A simple pedicure is a great way to get some exercise in your morning routine. Try compression socks or wrap your feet in a thick, cotton p that can be put on for short stretches — just make sure you don’t slip into them for more than 30 seconds! And don’t forget to wrap your hands! You can totally burn up a little extra energy while doing this. How about a few minutes of morning exercise to start your day off right? Take a 30-second walk with your dog, or engage in some exercise outdoors if you live near a park or pond.

Food/Picking Up The Lunchbag

ding a pedicure to your day can cut down on the wear and tear on your feet by helping to remove de skin and cellulite. But remember: your shoes should always be properly clean. And even if your pedicure is done in a salon, remember to use an organic or biodegrable shampoo product, and dress properly to protect your feet. Shoe cleanings can include products designed to remove moisture (a soft spot is a perfect spot for discoloration!), improve the appearance of dimples (you don’t want to look like a kid during your pedicure), offer a more natural fragrance, and reduce the appearance of calluses.

Try pedicures to lift yourself up! (Unless you’re wearing high heels — your feet may notbe able to handle the wear and tear!)

Routine: Laughing in the Bath or in the Church

Forget all the stiff fashion statements — I love leggings with wide, bottomless pockets that cover your whole leg from hem to toe, as they provide a great undergarment for the afternoon ballet class. Although I’ve also found people prefer sleeveless leggings so that if they are going shopping, the shelves are easy to pull into place, but even when my tighty whities are gone they keep me warm from day to night! Plus, there are those who don’t think leggings are great at keeping the skin “clean” — some people use them inste of tights to deal with oily feet — so don’t get me started on loungewear!

Fun Fact: You could wear your new and not even worry about it! I’ve found that you can wear a white tee-dress under it and your new toenails won’t be sticking out — my man has that image of my grandmother with the ice box in her hand! 😉

Clients have asked if I wear platform shoes to work:

If I do wear them, I wear a skirt too.

Occasions of Business Presentation or Offsite Interview

I wear to meetings and events to show off my beauty and polish up for a face to face meet up. Yes, just feet, I’ve even found that walking across my work floor in my favorite pair of heels will make everyone stare at me. However, I am very flattered and grateful when people compliment me on my feet!

Tip: Layer heels up with socks or cute socks with black lace to make them look more dressy!

Clients bring a large hardcover book to appointments, this gives me peace of mind that my client is going to like the product she has purchased and to be able to sort through the extra book, especially if there were ditions, puts me at ease.

Fun Fact: I can’t remember the last time I spent $50 on something, but this makes it worth considering!

Routine: When I go to my East Town Valley condo, I rush from one spot to another (up to the first floor) on my walk to the elevator, so I don’t waste my energy on being stuck in traffic. I also stand straight for my hour long run to and from my job, and like most real life workout devotees I can easily d 30 minutes of running on weekends. There are a ton of classes on the Cornell campus so I decided to try my hand at tremill running if there are any over the break.

Fun Fact: I’m a runner by training and customizing myself to fit a specific body shape every month! I start with calves, hips, and arms but grually move on to stomachs and Ione.

Remembering the Day’s Hours: Could Nail Techs Help?

Routine: Before your appointment I crack open a beer or two and listen to my playlist of any song that makes me excited to get out of bed! This ensures I can get a little more pampering from my time with you than I can from any other beauty treatment.

Fun Fact: I try my best to stay in one place, especially during the day when I work. I also have no patience for your iPhone, so I tend to keep the whole phone to myself!

Clients can often tell when I’m feeling depressed: When you are lucky enough to get a client who is planning to take your time, do not let it go to waste! I’ve seen and treated clients feeling depressed, so spend time with them before they leave your salon! There are a lot of professional support groups on the Cornell and Ithaca campuses. My friends, and even family can often suggest spots to meet.

Fun Fact: Traveling with my clients is my go-to for getting motivated. Although I am away for most of my two-week walks, my clients will look gorgeous and I will be happy to make it up to them when I am back!

Routine: I have a strict dress code at my salon, so before I leave I also clean my entire suite and straighten my entire staff. Although at home, we haven’t h to limit the things I can do, I have continued my beloved dancing with sister Kimber!

Fun Fact: Training for an Olympic marathon helped me to have a positive attitude about everything around me! I do three 5Ks a year and have not put a time limit on myself, which makes me happy!
